The View’s Ana Navarro ‘Just Discovered There Are Black People in Iowa’

March 6th, 2023 3:00 PM

Remember kids, you never stop learning! Monday was a big day for The View’s faux Republican, Ana Navarro who learned that morning that black people do indeed live in Iowa. The ABC co-host came into that newfound knowledge during a commercial break and had the nerve to lecture prospective Republican presidential nominees to not be that ignorant. She also cooked up disinformation about the GOP “erasing history period.”

After a segment where Navarro and the rest of the anti-conservative cast bashed the right, co-host Whoopi Goldberg returned from a commercial break with a special announcement sparked by a conversation while they were off the air: “You know, we learned something just a few minutes ago. You know, as traveled as Ana always thinks she is, sometimes she doesn't know as much as we think she does. She just discovered there are black people in Iowa.”

Navarro pointed to people in the audience - possibly part of what sparked the announcement - and Goldberg quipped that “There are people of color all over the place.”

The embarrassed Navarro defended herself with the “I was obviously making a joke” line and suggested they “were talking about something very serious” during the break, which they didn’t elaborate on. Goldberg spoke out in Navarro’s defense by suggesting “she was teasing” but quickly added: “I mean, a lot of people don't know that” in terms of black people living in Iowa.

Navarro then attempted to project her own ignorance on the rest of the Republican Party and lectured possible presidential candidates about how they needed to take that into account. Hinting at popular Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), she also concocted disinformation about conservatives trying to erase history:

The people who think they're going to become president in this country better remember there are brown people and black people all over and in states that they have to win. So, before they think they're going to win by erasing AP history and by erasing black history and by erasing history period, remember, there's a lot of people who vote who are not aggrieved people and who want truth in history in places like Iowa and Pennsylvania and Ohio and Michigan.

“And so, good luck with your presidency,” she chided, tacitly admitting DeSantis would be president one day.

Before the commercial break, Navarro agreed with reparations demander Sunny Hostin that Republicans were peddling “grievance politics.” “It's about manufactured culture wars. It's not about logic. It's let's make things up that enrage people, that aggrieve people, that piss people off, that make them feel oppressed, that makes them feel like victims,” Navarro shouted while waving her arms around wildly.

“Is it a fear of a loss of power?” Hostin wondered. According to Navarro, “It’s I'm going to make them feel like I'm going to fight for them. And Ron DeSantis is saying the same thing.” “He’s fighting drag queens … they're fighting black history. They're fighting truth. They're fighting facts. They're fighting science. That's what they're fighting,” she shouted at one point, once again projecting.

On a side note, Monday was also the first time the studio audience could go maskless since the start of the pandemic and they returned to filming in the studio.

Ana Navarro’s ignorance and projection was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships Sandals and Walgreens. Their contact information is linked.

ANA NAVARRO: It's not just Trump. When he's saying I'm your warrior, I think he’s saying “I’m your warrior, not --

SUNNY HOSTIN: But who’s he fighting?

NAVARRO: Everybody. He's fighting – I’ll tell you who he’s fighting –

HOSTIN: Black people, immigrants.

NAVARRO: Let me answer you. He’s fighting transgenders –

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Drag queens.

NAVARRO: He’s fighting drag queens. He’s fighting –  You know, they're fighting black history. They're fighting truth. They're fighting facts. They're fighting science. That's what they're fighting.

[Applause]

HOSTIN: But none of those people are in power.

NAVARRO: Yeah, but that doesn't matter, Sunny. It's about manufactured culture wars. It's not about logic. It's let's make things up that enrage people, that aggrieve people, that piss people off, that make them feel oppressed, that makes them feel like victims.

HOSTIN: Is it a fear of a loss of power?

NAVARRO: It’s I'm going to make them feel like I'm going to fight for them. And Ron DeSantis is saying the same thing.

NAVARRO: This is now the train they're on. Right? Let’s go after transgender people. Let's go after LGBTQ. And it's going to wind up getting somebody hurt. And it needs to stop.

And listen, if you are against your children going to a drag show, don't take your children to a drag show. No 5-year-old can drive themselves. And the number one cause of death in children is firearms. So, if you really are concerned about your children and their security, pass some common sense gun reform and leave the drag queens the hell alone!

[Ana points to people in the audience, applause]

HOSTIN: I mean, Nikole Hannah-Jones from the 1619 Project is from Waterloo, Iowa. You know that.

[Speaking to the audience members] There's at least 11 black people in Iowa. Because y’all said there were 10. So Nikole is 11.

GOLDBERG: There are people of color all over the place.

NAVARRO: I was obviously making a joke. We were talking about something very serious.

[Crosstalk]

GOLDBERG: She was teasing.

[Crosstalk]

GOLDBERG: I mean, a lot of people don't know that.

NAVARRO: Every time – And you know what, I have to tell you. The people who think they're going to become president in this country better remember there are brown people and black people all over and in states that they have to win.
