How against Republicans is ABC’s Whoopi Goldberg? Well, during Thursday’s edition of The View she defended radical leftists tearing down and defacing statues of President Abraham Lincoln, the Republican president who released the slaves from their Democratic masters. She also declared, without evidence, that Mississippi was “reinstating Jim Crow” and bringing back lynching.
The spark that set Goldberg off was liberal comedian Bill Maher ripping wokeism and denouncing those on the left who took things “too far” by targeting Lincoln. “Abraham Lincoln was not a controversial figure among liberals. We liked him. Now they take his name off schools and tear down his statues. Really? Lincoln isn't good enough for you?” he said in disbelief via a soundbite from CNN.
Following the clip, Goldberg immediately had an attitude. She then proceeded to mischaracterize a famous Lincoln statue series that showed a slave rising after Lincoln broke the shackles and defended their removal:
Well, that statue wasn't good enough. Because it showed a slave down at Lincoln's feet. And if we're tearing down statues that are really not in tune with where we are as a nation, or at least where we were a couple months ago, yeah, you got to take it down. That's why they removed stuff. That's why people are moving stuff around.
What she conveniently failed to mention was that it was more than just that statue series that was targeted by the woke mob. Like this one of him just standing in Portland and this bust removed by Cornell University.
Goldberg then lashed out at critics of wokeness by suggesting they were “asleep” and woke up to see free black and liberated women “running amuck” and they “can’t handle it”:
Y'all were asleep. We were never asleep. We had to stay awake watching you. So, you woke up and thought, “Oh, my God there's lots of women running amuck doing things they’re not supposed to be doing and drag queens everywhere, and oh my God, people of color!”
You know, you always talk about the snowflakes, look in the mirror. Y'all can't seem to handle anything. You can't seem to handle competition from Democrats to Republicans. You can't seem to handle the discussions of why people feel the way they do. Your idea is to get rid of everything.
“So, stop calling us snowflakes,” she screeched.
Goldberg’s tirade continued by claiming that her right to speak ill of former President Trump was in danger because supposedly “lots of changes happening all over America” including Mississippi “reinstating Jim Crow.” She provided no evidence that this was the case, even adding that lynching could be allowed soon. “And a guy said, ‘Can we add hanging people from trees to that act?’ I mean, there are crazy things happening in the world. We got to pay attention.”
“Whoever thought in this life I would ever say those words out loud?” she reacted to her own misinformation.
Whoopi Goldberg’s anti-Lincoln screed was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from DirecTV and Colgate. Their contact information is linked.

BILL MAHER: Democrats can take it too far. I would categorize liberal as different than woke. Woke, which started out as a good thing – alert to injustice – Who could be against that? But it became sort of an eye roll because they love diversity except of ideas. [Transition] Abraham Lincoln was not a controversial figure among liberals. We liked him. Now they take his name off schools and tear down his statues. Really, Lincoln isn't good enough for you?
[Cuts back to live]
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Well, that statue wasn't good enough. Because it showed a slave down at Lincoln's feet. And if we're tearing down statues that are really not in tune with where we are as a nation, or at least where we were a couple months ago, yeah, you got to take it down. That's why they removed stuff. That's why people are moving stuff around.
And this idea of woke, I'll say it again. Most of y'all were asleep.
JOY BEHAR: Who are you speaking to?
GOLDBERG: I’m talking to all those folks that use that word “woke” all the time.
So, stop calling us snowflakes.
[Applause]
Okay. Just -- you know -- and you know what, there are very few people on the planet I've ever been afraid of. He's [former President Donald Trump] not one of them.
BEHAR: Why not?
GOLDBERG: Because my mother scared me.
[Laughter]
GOLDBERG: He's, you know -- he's got nothing on my mom. I don't like what he does. I don't care about what he does when it comes to trying to poop on everybody. I don't like that.
And that's my right as an American, so far. There are lots of changes happening all over America. Mississippi is reinstating Jim Crow.
SARA HAINES: Tennessee I think.
GOLDBERG: No. It's Mississippi. Reinstating Jim Crow. Whoever thought in this life I would ever say those words out loud? And a guy said, “Can we add hanging people from trees to that act?” I mean, there are crazy things happening in the world. We got to pay attention.
