ABC, CBS Decry SCOTUS Keeping Title 42 in Place, ‘Dashing the Hopes of Thousands’

December 27th, 2022 9:16 PM

On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay that would allow for the continued enforcement of Title 42, a pandemic-era immigration policy. This was much to the chagrin of the liberal broadcasting networks, particularly ABC’s World News Tonight and CBS Evening News. Together, they bemoaned the decision and how it was “dashing the hopes of thousands” looking to get into the U.S. illegally.

During the opening tease for the newscast, ABC fill-in anchor and senior White House correspondent Mary Bruce announced the breaking news this way: “The justices leave in place Title 42, the Trump-era order restricting asylum claims amid the growing crisis at the border.”

Essentially, Bruce appeared to suggest that Title 42 was contributing to the border crisis, thus the solution to the border crisis laid in lifting the policy and just allowing illegal immigrants into the country. And when she finally got to the segment, Bruce’s chief concern was for, “what does it mean for the thousands of asylum seekers waiting on the Mexican side of the border?”

White House correspondent MaryAlice Parks gave her the answer she wanted. “Tonight, the Supreme Court keeping title 42 in place indefinitely, dashing the hopes of thousands of asylum-seekers waiting on the Mexican side of the border,” she said. And the blame for that was directed at the “19 Republican-led states tried to intervene to keep Title 42 on the books, worried about a potential overwhelming rush at the border.”

Meanwhile, on CBS, fill-in anchor and national correspondent Jericka Duncan kicked off the segment with a quote from President Biden about how Title 42 has to go. “Well, now to breaking news out of the Supreme Court. The pandemic-era restriction on immigration known as Title 42 will remain in place. President Biden says ending the policy is, quote, ‘Overdue,’” she told viewers.

CBS correspondent Manuel Bojorquez also lamented what the temporary verdict meant for those trying to enter the country:

For thousands of asylum seekers who recently crossed the southern border and thousands waiting in Mexico, the Supreme Court ruling means a Trump-era pandemic policy that allows the U.S. to quickly expel those who cross the border remains in effect for now.

Bojorquez also seemed to have an issue with how, “Since the policy has been in place, more than 2 million asylum seekers have been denied entry.”

But what he failed to mention was the fact that most of them would be expelled anyway since statistics show a very small percentage of asylum seekers meet the standard to qualify. It’s something many in the liberal media have obfuscated from their audiences as they present the asylum process as the crux of America’s immigration system and the border line as the finish line.

This whining about Title 42 was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from WeatherTech on ABC and Ashley on CBS. Their contact information is linked.
