The crazy train known as ABC’s The View came off the tracks Thursday as the cast took wild and unhinged swings at Republicans, blaming them in various ways for the school shooting in Uvalde, Taxes. Co-host Joy Behar described it as a serious problem that Republicans were listening to and were beholden to their constituents. Meanwhile, co-host Sara Haines was upset with Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R), who uses a wheelchair, for sitting while at a press conference.
Claiming she’s been doing some “reading,” Behar built off their discussion where they suggested the Republican Party is the puppet of the National Rifle Association to suggest the real dark interest that needed to be thwarted was: the average people.
“The money is, of course, one of the things, but it's also their constituents in their base will not vote for them. That is really the problem, and that is an intractable problem,” she decried. “They will never, ever do something as long as that base is controlling the situation.” Adding: “Those Republicans are always going to be at the mercy of their constituents.”
Listening to the voters back home about what their interests are is a “problem” for Behar, who’s an ardent liberal. So, it makes sense then that her solution was to “vote for the Democrats,” because following her logic would mean that the left doesn’t care what the people think. “It's important to understand that. There is no way out of this other than that,” she pressed.
Near the top of the show, while they were praising Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate Robert Francis O’Rourke for turning a press conference to update the public on the investigation into an event for himself, Haines voiced her apparent anger at a man in a wheelchair sitting.
“And I would never show my face if I were that governor – Governor Abbott after what happened,” she huffed, blaming Abbott for the spectacle O’Rourke caused. “Many people can't even peel themselves off the floor in grief in those communities and yet he's sitting there holding a – some kind of press conference.”
Praising O’Rourke’s self-centered stunt, Haines argued that “politics is theater” generally and thus O’Rourke’s was masterful because “he went there and you noticed even the optics. He calmly kept talking.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin came unglued and started shrieking about how those on stage “seemed angrier at Beto O’Rourke than they were at the massacre of 19 children and 2 fourth grade teachers!”
“They were yelling at him! I would like to see some of that energy around gun safety,” she bitterly demanded.
After blaming Abbott directly for the shooting, Hostin went on to complain that the real “political theater” was committed by Abbott and the officials who were gathered to give the update on the investigation. “You've got Governor Abbott. You've got all of these sheriffs. You've got the mayor. That’s what was political theater,” she whined.

SARA HAINES: Politics is theater, and guns happen to be a big issue for Beto O’Rourke, and he went there and you noticed even the optics. He calmly kept talking. They called him a -- some other things he can't say.
JOY BEHAR: An SOB. An SOB.
HAINES: And it got nasty there. Absolutely this matters because what they were doing – And I would never show my face if I were that governor – Governor Abbott after what happened. Many people can't even peel themselves off the floor in grief in those communities and yet he's sitting there holding a – some kind of press conference.

SUNNY HOSTIN: They seemed angrier at Beto O’Rourke than they were at the massacre of 19 children and 2 fourth grade teachers! They were yelling at him! I would like to see some of that energy around gun safety! I was so shocked that they were so angry at what he was saying, and he was saying the right things.

HOSTIN: And again, talking about political theater, did you see the theater that was going on during that presser? You've got Governor Abbott. You've got all of these sheriffs. You've got the mayor. That’s what was political theater.

BEHAR: See, the thing about it – and I’ve been reading about this today. Is that the Republicans in Congress right now, none of them are moving on this at all. Why? Because they're afraid of losing the power.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: And the money.
HOSTIN: And the money.
BEHAR: The money is of course, one of the things, but it's also their constituents in their base will not vote for them. That is really the problem, and that is an intractable problem. They will never, ever do something as long as that base is controlling the situation.
So, that's why yesterday I said, the only way to really fix this is to not vote for Republicans because in the general election, one that's coming up soon. Those Republicans are always going to be at the mercy of their constituents. So, if you vote for the Democrats, in this particular instance, you will break that. It's important to understand that. There is no way out of this other than that.
