Nets Hype Britney Spears, Ignore Border Crisis Worsening in July

August 12th, 2021 8:44 PM

The Department of Homeland Security finally released their border apprehension numbers for July 2021 and as many predicted, they proved that President Biden’s border crisis had gotten worse with the highest numbers in 20 years. And what did the broadcast networks think was more important than a crisis putting tremendous strain on the local communities and threatening them with Covid? Pop singer Britney Spears winning a victory against her father.

That’s right, ABC’s World News Tonight, the CBS Evening News, and NBC Nightly News found the personal legal dispute between a troubled pop star and her father more important to tell their audiences about than how the porous border was failing the American people. Then again, their goal was to cover for the Biden administration.

Of course, Fox News Channel’s Special Report was the evening news program bringing the truth to the American people. “President Biden's homeland security secretary says the administration is making changes to its border policy,” announced anchor Bret Baier. “Alejandro Mayorkas toured the south Texas area along the border today as the illegal immigration crisis there shows no signs of easing.”

Chief correspondent Jonathon Hunt was in Brownsville, Texas covering Mayorkas’s visit and shared with viewers how much the situation at the border had deteriorated under Biden’s stewardship.

“Secretary Mayorkas talked to some of those men in green, Border Patrol agents on the front lines, where Customs and Border Protection officially confirmed today there were more than 212,000 encounters in July, a fivefold increase over July 2020,” he reported.

He also showed off some of the local Democratic politicians who were also fed up and wanted to give Mayorkas a piece of their minds:

MAYOR PETE SAENZ (D-Laredo TX): Whatever system they’re using is broken and needs fixing.

HUNT: As the migrant surge continues to grow, leaders in south Texas met with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in McAllen, one of the epicenters of the crisis, and let him know exactly what they think.

CONGRESSMAN HENRY CUELLAR (D-TX): The men and women in green and blue need help, bottom line. They’re strained. They’re overworked. They don't need just a pat on the back. They actually need the resources.

He also went over Mayorkas’s claim that “the Biden administration is taking a four-pronged approach: tackling the root causes of migration, creating safe orderly and legal pathways for migrants, improving security and processing, and, in his words, attacking smugglers,” and trying to tackle the Covid infections.

Paraphrasing Mayorkas’s message, Hunt noted the secretary said “every branch of government involved in dealing with this migrant surge is working to protect the American public and to administer the laws of our nation.” But concluded with more from the fed-up locals: “The local leaders, Secretary Mayorkas met with here in Texas appear to believe that neither of those things is being done adequately.”

This omission of one of President Biden’s biggest failures, so far, was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Ford Motor Company on ABC, Allegra on CBS, and Liberty Mutual on NBC. Their contact information is linked so you can tell them about the biased news they fund.

MAYOR PETE SAENZ (D-Laredo TX): Whatever system they’re using is broken and needs fixing.

JONATHAN HUNT: As the migrant surge continues to grow, leaders in south Texas met with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in McAllen, one of the epicenters of the crisis, and let him know exactly what they think.

REP. HENRY CUELLAR (D-TX): The men and women in green and blue need help, bottom line. They’re strained. They’re overworked. They don't need just a pat on the back. They actually need the resources.

HUNT: During his visit, Secretary Mayorkas talked to some of those men in green, Border Patrol agents on the front lines, where Customs and Border Protection officially confirmed today there were more than 212,000 encounters in July, a fivefold increase over July 2020.

Many of those agents have indeed told us they are frustrated, exhausted, and need more resources to quickly and humanely process children and families and those who are genuine asylum seekers, and to just as quickly expel those who are not.

SEC. ALEJANDRO MAYORKAS (Homeland Security): We confront challenges and we meet them.

HUNT: Secretary Mayorkas said the Biden administration is taking a four-pronged approach: tackling the root causes of migration, creating safe orderly and legal pathways for migrants, improving security and processing, and, in his words, attacking smugglers.

And he said the administration is doing all it can to deal with a large number of Covid-19 infections among migrants.

MAYORKAS: We are building new processes to make sure that the migrants are tested, cohorted during transportation, isolated and quarantine as necessary, and we are surging federal resources to address that need.

[Cuts back to live]

HUNT: The secretary said every branch of government involved in dealing with this migrant surge is working to protect the American public and to administer the laws of our nation. The local leaders, Secretary Mayorkas met with here in Texas appear to believe that neither of those things is being done adequately. Bret?

BAIER: Jonathan hunt along the border again tonight. Jonathan, thanks.
