Ghoulish Cuomo to GOP: 'Who Needed to Die' to Get You to Convict?

February 9th, 2021 11:26 PM

During Tuesday’s edition of CNN’s Prime Time, host Chris “Fredo” Cuomo said he instructed all his kids to watch the show. Apparently, he wanted to teach them to hate Republicans because he spent most of the program lashing out at those in the Senate. And during the handoff to CNN Tonight host Don Lemon, Cuomo got ghoulish and demanded to know “who needed to die” to get Republicans to convict former President Trump in the impeachment trial.

Before getting to his vile question, Cuomo lamented the Democratic impeachment managers weren’t going to take his advice. “And I really believe the House managers won't do it because it's too incendiary. Cause this is all about votes so you'll piss these people off and make it more likely they vote against you,” he whined to Lemon.

“But I really do believe this is the question, Don,” he proclaimed as he openly questioned if former Vice President Mike Pence needed to die:

CUOMO: Who needed to die? If they had gotten Pelosi, God forbid. If they had gotten Schiff. If they had gotten Pence, God forbid, would you vote to convict then?

LEMON: No.

CUOMO: Who did they have to get?

LEMON: No.

CUOMO: And I would be pointing. How about her? How about him? Would this have done it for you? You guys eat lunch a lot together. What if he died?

LEMON: Yeah.

“And I really think that's where we are right now,” he declared, thinking he was being profound.

A few moments later, Lemon chimed in by suggesting Trump was popular because all his supporters wanted to keep America a “white supremacist” country.

“There are a lot of people who, as I have been telling you forever, there are a lot of people in this country who are afraid of what is happening. They're afraid of the diversity in this country,” he told Cuomo.

Lemon also claimed they “prioritize” racism over everything else:

He was the most vocal in all the things that they're afraid of. And so they see themselves in him with that particular part. So, they prioritize that part over the discrimination of other people, over all of the crazy rhetoric that he did. That's what they prioritize. And so, they want to continue with that America, and in an America where you can be a white supremacist, where you can wear a camp Auschwitz sweatshirt.

“And because this was the person who stood up for them the most in that horrible way, the worst part of their personality and being,” he sneered.

This is CNN.

CHRIS CUOMO: And I really believe the House managers won't do it because it's too incendiary. Cause this is all about votes so you'll piss these people off and make it more likely they vote against you. But I really do believe this is the question, Don. Who needed to die? If they had gotten Pelosi, God forbid. If they had gotten Schiff. If they had gotten Pence, God forbid, would you vote to convict then?

DON LEMON: No.

CUOMO: Who did they have to get?

LEMON: No.

CUOMO: And I would be pointing. How about her? How about him? Would this have done it for you? You guys eat lunch a lot together. What if he died?

LEMON: Yeah.

CUOMO: And I really think that's where we are right now.

LEMON: Well, I said -- I said last night what I believe.

(…)

CUOMO: I’ve got to tell you, I think you're probably right. I just don't understand it. My political brain doesn't understand what they're doing. This base argument doesn't work for me. One, punitively most people who describe themselves as Democrat or Republican vote that way regardless. Okay?

LEMON: Yeah.

CUOMO: And this is your last chance--

LEMON: I understand it.

CUOMO: -- to get your party back from this guy.

LEMON: I understand what's going on.

CUOMO: And I don’t get the calculation.

LEMON: I understand it really well. There are a lot of people who, as I have been telling you forever, there are a lot of people in this country who are afraid of what is happening. They're afraid of the diversity in this country.

CUOMO: They'll vote for him anyway.

LEMON: Maybe. But he has -- he was the most vocal in all the things that they're afraid of. And so they see themselves in him with that particular part. So, they prioritize that part over the discrimination of other people, over all of the crazy rhetoric that he did. That's what they prioritize. And so, they want to continue with that America, and in an American where you can be a white supremacist. Where you can wear a camp Auschwitz sweatshirt. Where you can run shot over the Constitution --

CUOMO: Who would they ever vote for except someone on that side of the aisle pitching them that virulence?

LEMON: Because they look at those people as rhinos. And because this was the person who stood up for them the most in that horrible way, the worst part of their personality and being.

CUOMO: Yeah, I get it he was the worst. I'm with you.

LEMON: That’s it. That's why.
