“Not my president” started off as a rallying cry for liberals shattered by Hillary Clinton’s historic defeat to Donald Trump. But during Monday’s Presidents’ Day holiday, leftists gathered for anti-Trump protests in cities from coast-to-coast in celebration of “Not My President Day.” The liberal Big Three networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) seemed to revel in the play on words the rallies brought. “And on this Presidents' Day, thousands of Americans took part in what they called, ‘Not My President Day,’” announced ABC anchor David Muir on World News Tonight.
CBS and NBC noted that the rally in New York took place outside of a hotel named after the President of the United States. “Another display of defiance against President Trump, including a large crowd outside his Trump International Hotel in New York,” reported anchor Lester Holt on NBC Nightly News. He also noted that “so-called “Not My Presidents’ Day” marches were staged in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and more than two dozen other places.”
Anthony Mason, who was sitting in for anchor Scott Pelley, was the only one to mention at protesters were arrested at one the marches. “In Portland, Oregon, police arrested several protesters who blocked a downtown street,” he noted before quickly offsetting it with “In Atlanta, about 400 marched peacefully through midtown.”
On NBCNews.com, a reporter cheerfully wrote that “From sea to shining sea, thousands of Americans marked Presidents Day on Monday by denouncing the current occupant of the White House — President Donald Trump.” The reporter also admired the anti-president signs the protesters were sporting. “Many took aim at Trump's alleged cozying up to Russian strongman Vladimir Putin with signs that read ‘Happy President's Day President Putin’ and ‘My President? Nyet,’” he recalled.
Online, CBS also highlighted signs trashing Trump. “The protesters had signs reading ‘Trump is treason’ and ‘the art of the liar…’ In Chicago, CBS News’ Roseanne Tellez covered a protest in the downtown where protesters had signs ‘Dump Trump’ and ‘Repeal and replace Trump, not Obamacare,’” a reporter documented.
CBS also seemed to whine that the President still commanded support, ending the report with, “Meanwhile, supporters of the president have followed his lead, turning on the media and saying they’re glad to see Trump fighting back.”
The nets’ eagerness to hype anti-Trump rallies is going a long way to prove their bias since they condemned the Tea Party’s rallies against President Obama.
