Religious Leaders Join MRC Campaign Against ‘Juvenile’ Anti-Christian Bigotry of Joy Behar on ‘The View’

March 6th, 2018 6:03 PM

RESTON, Va. — On Tuesday, religious leaders joined a growing wave of conservative leaders led by Media Research Center President and Founder Brent Bozell against The View’s Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin in light of the ABC show’s anti-Christian bigotry.

Since The View’s vile remarks on February 13 against Vice President Mike Pence and Christians as “dangerous” and “mentally ill,” MRC supporters have made over 30,000 calls to ABC demanding the network apologize for this smear.

On February 21, the MRC launched a campaign against The View’s advertisers. Supporters can visit http://stopattackingchristians.com/ to find out how they can contact top sponsors like Clorox, Gerber, Oreo and Home Advisor to let them know what you think of Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin’s comments.

Below are statements from Bozell and religious leaders praising the MRC’s campaign:

“Anti-Christian bigotry as displayed by The View’s Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin should not have a place on ABC News or any news network. More than 30,000 phone calls have been placed to ABC News President James Goldston, yet zero response has been issued. This silence is not going unnoticed by Christians across the country. In their lack of response, ABC News is signaling to Christians that statements of religious intolerance are permissible on their network’s programs. Perhaps ABC should be renamed the ‘American Bigotry Company’ if this kind of hateful speech is tolerated. If ABC and James Goldston respect their Christian viewership in the slightest, they would apologize for the despicable comments made about Vice President Pence’s faith.”

Brent Bozell,
President and Founder,
Media Research Center,

“The constant anti-Christian rhetoric from the media is unacceptable and must stop. This behavior is aimed at desensitizing the American public regarding the marginalization of people of faith. At what point does the American public demand that the mockery of Christians end?”

Tim Wildmon,
President,
American Family Association

“Our friends at the Media Research Center are asking viewers to call out ABC on their ‘wildly hypocritical’ behavior. The hosts of The View and everyone at ABC would denounce any disparaging comments about Islam. However, their tolerance never seems to extend to Christianity. You can join MRC in hitting the view where it hurts – their corporate sponsorships. Check out their site — stopattackingchristians.com — and take a few minutes to demand better from brands like Clorox, Gerber, Oreo, and HomeAdvisor. No company should keep company with intolerant shows like this one.”

Tony Perkins,
President,
Family Research Council

“For years, The View has disparaged Christians, and now it has decided to mock the sincerely held beliefs of the Vice President of the United States. Make no mistake about it, this is an assault on the sensibilities of all Christians. No advertiser can justify supporting this show any longer.”

Bill Donohue
President,
Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights

“Apparently Joy Behar thinks God only speaks to liberals. There is no other explanation for her total silence when it came to Oprah saying she is waiting to hear from God before deciding to run for president while attacking Vice President Pence over his statement regarding hearing from Jesus. Our Vice President is mentally ill, according to Behar, but it's hands off media maven and liberal darling, Oprah.  Both claim to seek God's guidance but only one is allowed that privilege. This is why Christians need to contact advertisers of The View. Enough is enough. Consulting with God is an act of great humility and wisdom. We greatly endorse taking a decision to prayer and we applaud anyone who publicly admits taking the time to hear God speak.”

Janet Morana, Elna Rodriguez, Teresa Tomeo
Co-hosts, The Catholic View for Women on EWTN

“When Hillary Clinton called half the country ‘deplorable’ and ‘irredeemable,’ she revealed what the left really thinks about values voters.  When Joy Behar and others mock the faith of Mike Pence, they are using him as a stand in for the rest of us in Middle America.  It is outrageous.  Such bigotry against the values of millions of Americans should not be tolerated by ABC.”

Gary Bauer
American Values

“Attacks on and persecution of Christians is an ancient phenomenon. Indeed, Jesus warned his followers: ‘You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.’ Matthew 10:22. In fact, our organization was formed precisely to answer such attacks. As Christians, we are commanded to not seek revenge on our oppressors. So we instead solicit the principled executives at ABC for answers to the following questions: How does ABC justify the irresponsible and uninformed anti-Christian bigotry exhibited by Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin at your network? And why, in light of such bigotry, should anyone support your programming with our patronage?”

Bill Becker

Freedom X Law

“The religious bigotry on offer at The View is juvenile, cartoonish and frankly comical. What Behar et al do not know is that Jesus speaks to each of them all day every day. They are crazy not to listen.”

Austin Ruse

President

Center for Family & Human Rights

“People of all religions should unequivocally condemn the anti-religious rant expressed on the View. Ignoring and disrespecting the ability of a person to receive moral guidance from the Divine perfectly illustrates a reason for the  moral chaos prevalent today. By disrespecting the role of the Divine in human affairs and ignoring the basic communication between G-d and Man, the ‘entertainers’ on The View are mocking a Believers' spiritual and ethical impulse.”

Arthur Goldberg,
Co-director,
Jewish Institute for Global Awareness

“Christianity has long been a target of the news and entertainment industries, but in this #MeToo moment, we Christians do not have to tolerate it. The cast of The View has gone way too far suggesting that those of us who talk to God in prayer are suffering from mental illness, and we need to make sure that ABC and the show’s advertisers understand there will be financial consequences for spewing this kind of hatred.”

Father Frank Pavone,
National Director,
Priests for Life

Christianity is fair game for media elites. I’m not offended because Christianity, outside of a national tragedy, has often been mocked by The View and the intolerant mainstream media. Persecution is part of being a Christian and Christians aren’t entitled to approval from the media. We are entitled, however, to decency as human beings who have contributed greatly to America and have fought moral injustices from slavery to the civil rights movement.

Shawn Carney,
CEO & President,
40 Days for Life

"In the Catholic schools we work with, such boorish behavior would earn a student detention and a lecture on virtue and respect for others. That's precisely what the commentators at The View need: a break from the air and a lesson in religious tolerance. ABC executives should join them."

Patrick Reilly,

President,

The Cardinal Newman Society

“ABC owes an apology for Joy Behar’s demeaning comments about Vice President Mike Pence’s Christian faith. These insulting and outrageous statements are unbecoming of ABC. If ABC does not distance itself from Behar’s discriminatory outburst then America will know that her statements represent the views of ABC. America is watching and waiting.”
