Scarborough Trips and Falls on The Wall Street Journal and George Floyd on Fentanyl

October 20th, 2022 6:17 AM

This one really came back to bite Joe Scarborough in the hind quarters . . .

On today's Morning Joe, Scarborough went on a long rant about how conservatives live in media "silos" and are impervious to actual information, choosing instead to believe lies. Scarborough said that he begs conservative friends and family to get real information by reading . . . the Wall Street Journal.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I talk to friends. I talk to former business partners. I talk -- I talk to everybody, and -- they -- they have a completely different worldview that is completely isolated from fact.

They argue things that are, that, that are, that they picked up on the internet. And you're exactly right! They'll go, well, you know, Joe, I just -- I don't really -- I don't watch news anymore, because you -- you just don't know what's true and what's -- and I try to say, yeah, but you do go to websites that are run by Chinese cults [The Epoch Times]. And you do get Facebook pages that people just make up whole cloth. And that's your new news source?

And as I say repeatedly to them, read the Wall Street Journal! Like, the Wall Street Journal news section. It's great reporters, and it's Murdoch's newspaper! Ah, they're, eh, I just don't know. I say, oh. So you think Murdoch is involved in the deep state? That he's a left-wing socialist?

At one point, Mika cited rapper Kanye West as an example of people lying. Fact checkers jumped on West for implying George Floyd was hyped up on fentanyl -- and that police officer Derek Chauvin didn't have his knee on Floyd's neck. But let's just isolate the fentanyl. Scarborough said:

Kanye West is going out, talking about George Floyd being on fentanyl. You know -- I guess people thought, Willie, in the age of Trump, that they could say whatever they wanted to say. They could spread whatever lies they wanted to spread.

So let's take Joe's advice and read the Wall Street Journal. From the Wall Street Journal article on the official coroner's report on the death of George Floyd.

"The county medical examiner found the cause of death was 'cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression.' Its autopsy results also indicated heart disease, fentanyl intoxication and recent methamphetamine use."

So who's lying now, Joe?

And pity those poor, benighted, liberals, living in their media bubbles, and getting their [mis]information from the likes of—Joe Scarborough!Mika Brzezinski Joe Scarborough Willie Geist MSNBC Morning Joe 10-19-22

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough accusing Kanye West of lying about George Floyd having been on fentanyl, whereas the coroner's report showed that at the time of his death, Floyd was suffering "fentanyl intoxication," was sponsored in part by Sleep Number, and Ensure

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I talk to friends. I talk to former business partners. I talk -- I talk to everybody, and -- they -- they have a completely different world-view that is completely isolated from fact.

They argue things that are, that, that are, that they picked up on the internet. And you're exactly right! They'll go, well, you know, Joe, I just -- I don't really -- I don't watch news anymore, because you -- you just don't know what's true and what's -- and I try to say, yeah, but you do go to websites that are run by Chinese cults. And you do get Facebook pages that people just make up whole cloth. And that's your new news source?

And as I say repeatedly to them, read the Wall Street Journal! Like, the Wall Street Journal" news section. It's great reporters, and it's Murdoch's newspaper! Ah, they're, eh, I just don't know. I say, oh. So you think Murdoch is involved in the deep state? That he's a left-wing socialist?

And it just comes down to what the woman said. They just want to hear what they want to hear. They don't want to be bothered with the facts. They don't want to be bothered with the truth. They want to stay in a bubble. Have people lie to them. They want to repeat those lies, and they want to be separated from fact.

What do you do with that? That's a great question. But I will tell you, I have calmly and patiently sat there and talked to them. I've calmly and patiently sent email after email after email to them. Not judgmentally. In love, because I love these people. And I will tell you. I've made about as much progress as I would make if I ran into the center of the Philadelphia Eagles defensive line. No progress at all.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: None. None.

. . .

SCARBOROUGH: They'll stay very comfortable in their world of lies.

MIKA: Kanye being in there.

SCARBOROUGH: And I was going to say. Now Kanye -- Kanye West.

MIKA: Or Ye Yang.

SCARBOROUGH: Kanye West is going out, talking about George Floyd being on fentanyl. You know -- I guess people thought, Willie, in the age of Trump, that they could say whatever they wanted to say. They could spread whatever lies they wanted to spread. They can spread whatever conspiracy theories they wanted to spread. And they could get away with it.

Well guess what? They can't!
