Liberal Pundit: Chicago Mayor Would Love It If Democrat POTUS Proposed TOTAL Gun Ban

September 3rd, 2019 10:12 PM

When it comes to guns, want to know what the Democrats have in their heart of hearts? Liberal pundit Amy Walter let the cat out of the bag on Bret Baier's Special Report on Tuesday night. When Baier pointed out that as many people were shot and killed in Chicago last weekend as in the recent West Texas mass shooting, Walter said:

"If a Democratic president said, let's ban all handguns, all firearms of all sorts, the Democratic mayor of Chicago would be, 'great, sign me up. I'm happy to do it. And you can’t sell guns anywhere to, in, or around any state, they would be happy to do it!'"

You have to believe that a Chicago mayor reflects the views of many Democrats at all levels of government. And indeed, Walter said that support for an entire panoply of gun control proposals is "national" among Democrats. Note also that, apropos of banning the sale of guns everywhere, Walter said "they," not just the Chicago mayor, "would be happy to do it."

Something to keep in mind the next time you hear Dem politicians claiming they're only interested in "common-sense" gun safety measures.

Here's the transcript.

BRET BAIER: What’s interesting, and obviously these mass shooting events have gotten a lot of attention and they have become epidemic-like. But also not talked about was Chicago this weekend. Thirty-five shootings, seven fatalities. It didn’t even rise to the level of major coverage. It was the same number of people who died in Odessa. And that is something that doesn’t get talked about a lot either.

AMY WALTER: It doesn’t. Although I suspect if you asked the mayors of major cities that have a lot of gun violence, they would support every single thing on that list [expanded background checks, red flag laws, gun buybacks, assault weapons ban, handgun sale ban.] That's national.

BAIER: But I mean, Chicago is a place run by Democrats and has a gun control --

WALTER: That’s right. So if they said let’s ban — if right now a Democratic president said let’s ban all handguns, all firearms of all sorts, the Democratic mayor of Chicago would be like, great, sign me up. I’m happy to do it. And you can’t sell guns anywhere to, in, or around any state, they would be happy to do it!

MATTHEW CONTINETTI: And that would be the end of the Democratic Party in the United States of America.
