With news of the death of Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane, let's borrow a line from another group of the late '60s, Buffalo Springfield: "there's something happening here." What it is ain't exactly clear, but it doesn't seem to bode well for Hillary Clinton.
Today's Morning Joe featured an ominous exchange between Joe Scarborough and Mark Halperin. The notion was that a variety of sources--from a senior network exec, to top Obama admin officials, to FBI agents--are saying the same thing: the FBI investigation of Hillary is much further along than most people realize. Listen to Halperin: "the body language among some Obama administration officials is, this is more serious, and something's going to happen."
Halperin went on to say that "the timing of it could be, if not cataclysmic, pretty bad for Secretary Clinton."
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Can I ask Mark Halperin a quick question?
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Okay, a quick one. We have so much to get to.
JOE: To Mark, I have to tell you from a network executive high up in another network that we all know that asked when we were going to start talking about what most of us around this table are hearing from multiple sources and I'm sure you are, too: that the Hillary Clinton investigation of the FBI is far more progressed and we're hearing it, Mika and I have been hearing it, from the top officials in the Obama administration for actually several months now and we can't go to a meeting in Washington where we don't hear that. I'm sure you're hearing the same thing. What is -- what are your -- all of our sources high up are telling us -- and Nicolle is hearing the same thing, that this investigation's far more advanced than we the public knows. What are you hearing?
MARK HALPERIN: Well, there are three things people are keying off of, Joe. First of all, there's a lot of chatter amongst FBI agents, many of whom have never been big fans of the Clintons, but a lot of FBI agents seem to be saying something is happening here. Second is, from a legal point of view, you look at some of the recent developments we've talked about here on the program, it's hard to see nw how the Justice Department, the FBI, doesn't want to interview Secretary Clinton. And that interview alone short of an indictment, short of anything else, that would be a huge political development, it would undermine confidence in some Democrats in the notion of going forward with Secretary Clinton. And the last thing is there are some people in the White House who are starting to talk about this. It's not clear to me whether they know what's happening or there's just their intuition but the body language among some Obama administration officials is: this is more serious and something's going to happen. Again, the timing of it could be, if not cataclysmic, pretty bad for Secretary Clinton.
