Brit Hume Laughs at NY Times: ‘Beyond Parody’ to Ask DNC to Investigate Biden

May 5th, 2020 10:30 AM

Appearing on Fox News’s Special Report Monday evening, senior political analyst Brit Hume openly laughed at the absurd suggestion from The New York Times that the Democratic National Committee should be in charge of investigating sexual assault allegations against its own presumptive presidential nominee, Joe Biden.

Anchor Bret Baier pointed out: “... one thing raised eyebrows this week, and that’s The New York Times. To investigate Tara Reade’s allegations, “The Democratic National Committee,” it says, ‘should move to investigate the matter swiftly and thoroughly with the full cooperation of the Biden campaign....conducted by an unbiased, apolitical panel put together by the DNC and chosen to foster as much trust as possible.’”

Even before Baier finished quoting the Times, Hume began laughing. He then admitted: “When I first heard about it, I thought it was not true. I thought it couldn’t possibly be true. But then I looked and read the editorial itself, it is true.”

Hume mocked the liberal paper for proposing the idea:

And it’s just – it’s almost like nothing I’ve ever seen before. It is really quite beyond parody that a leading newspaper would suggest that the presumptive nominee of a party ought to be investigated by that party. I mean, you know, that tells you as much as anything ever could about the state of the mainstream media in America today and it is absolutely amazing.

He even noted that Democrats themselves were rejecting the notion: “And I know that at least some on the Democratic side are walking away from that idea. They don’t think that’s gonna fly. And of course it won’t fly.”

Hume concluded: “But it tells you a lot about the state of our media.”

After much of the media ignored the allegations against Biden for a month, the liberal press were forced to cover the story once NewsBusters uncovered video appearing to show Tara Reade’s mother calling in to Larry King Live in 1993 and corroborating her daughter’s claims against Biden at the time.

However, even since that development and the end of the media blackout, journalists have been working to make sure the scandal gets covered on the Biden campaign’s terms.

Here is a transcript of the May 4 exchange on Special Report:

BRET BAIER: I want to ask you about this Tara Reade allegation. I’ve heard you speak – that we may not know the end result of where it goes, but one thing raised eyebrows this week, and that’s The New York Times. To investigate Tara Reade’s allegations, “The Democratic National Committee,” it says, “should move to investigate the matter swiftly and thoroughly with the full cooperation of the Biden campaign. Any inventory should be strictly limited to information about Ms. Reade and conducted by an unbiased, apolitical panel put together by the DNC and chosen to foster as much trust as possible.” What do you think of that?

BRIT HUME [LAUGHING]: When I first heard about it, I thought it was not true. I thought it couldn’t possibly be true. But then I looked and read the editorial itself, it is true. And it’s just – it’s almost like nothing I’ve ever seen before. It is really quite beyond parity that a leading newspaper would suggest that the presumptive nominee of a party ought to be investigated by that party. I mean, you know, that tells you as much as anything ever could about the state of the mainstream media in America today and it is absolutely amazing. And I know that at least some on the Democratic side are walking away from that idea. They don’t think that’s gonna fly. And of course it won’t fly. But it tells you a lot about the state of our media.
