The hosts of The View spent last Friday defending House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and made a repeat performance on this Friday’s show, after Democrats and the media pressured her to start impeachment proceedings. The hosts took turns between fawning over Pelosi and then ranting that the “criminal in the White House” needed to be impeached.
They began by playing a clip of the House Speaker appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, basically admitting Democrats wouldn’t be impeaching Trump right away, saying that would cause a backlash for her party. Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar gushed over Pelosi’s response.
“[S]o when he is no longer running stuff, when he goes to get on that plane in January when a new President is sworn in, I don’t know maybe they get him then!” Whoopi said hopefully, adding that she “agreed” that an unsuccessful impeachment would hurt Democrats.
Behar then fawned over Pelosi’s intellect while making a dig at Trump:
“She's taking her time and I kind of like Nancy. She's playing chess of the he's playing checkers. Let's face it. She’s smarter than him and she’s got more experience,” Behar gushed.
But Sunny Hostin was eager to see Trump impeached, calling it “dangerous” to not investigate the “potential criminality of the President.” (because a nearly two-year-long investigation by Mueller wasn’t enough?):
I think it sets a very dangerous precedent if you don't at least start the impeachment inquiry because no one is above the law….Well, the inquiry really is what an impeachment is in my view. I think an impeachment is starting an investigation into the criminality, the potential criminality of this president. No one should be above the law!
Hostin touted MSNBC’s Donny Deutsch arguing we should rebrand the word “impeachment” to “criminal activity:”
Maybe we need to rebrand the word impeachment and call it what it is, which is a criminal investigation and perhaps Donald Trump needs to prove to us that he is not a criminal and needs to defend himself… I think the American people need to understand whether or not there is a criminal in the White House!
Meghan McCain warned that Democrats had better make sure they had all their ducks in a row and obliterate Trump if they wanted to get out of the impeachment proceedings unscathed, because the majority of Americans weren’t for it.
“I will say if you take this kill shot, Democrats, you better not miss. You better hit his jugular. If there is even a finger still moving at the end of it you are going to ruin your chances in 2020 but you better do this well if you're going to do it,” she advised, before apologizing for the analogy saying she didn’t mean that “literally.”
