Fire and Fury author Michael Wolff isn’t done promoting his tabloid-worthy book just yet. The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah welcomed Wolff as his guest January 22, and eagerly lapped up the liberal nonsense the controversial journalist was selling.
Despite previously claiming that he had “no political agenda” against the president, Wolff described Trump as “stupid” and incompetent, and joked with Noah over the “buffoon” in the White House.
The friendly interview started with Noah commending Wolff as practically more hated than ISIS by President Trump. That drew laughs, and the comedian then asked Wolff if he was “afraid” of what Trump might do to him because of this tell-all book:
“After writing this book, is there even a tiny little part of you that's afraid? Because Donald Trump definitely bears a grudge,” Noah touted.
The ever-humble journalist claimed that he actually predicted the president would “get in touch” with him in “a relatively short period of time,” so he could “take credit” for the book, which Wolff bragged was the “best selling book in the world,” (guess he hasn’t heard of the Bible.)
Noah grinned then praised the “fascinating and fun read,” before asking if the book was more “juicy tidbits” or a “journalistic foray into the White House.” Wolff wanted to take credit for both.
“Yes it is a book about what I saw and what I heard,” he added. “I mean these are the greatest bunch of knuckleheads I think, that have ever been assembled in one place,” the serious “journalist” gushed.
But The Daily Show host wondered if perhaps he had been given false information by White House staffers for his book. Wolff assured Noah that his sources were accurate because they worked closely with Trump.
“I think everyone in the White House would agree, that Trump is someone who should not be president,” Wolff stated, (as he has said at least a dozen times in interviews since the book was released.) He added that this claim “wasn’t controversial” at all.
“The President of the United States is surrounded by people who believe he shouldn't have this job,” Wolff declared again.
Noah called it a “frightening concept or reality to live in,” realizing that even Trump’s own staffers didn’t believe he was a competent leader. That led Wolff to tear down Trump’s ability to get anything done, claiming he’s “never negotiated anything,” “doesn’t care about policy” and “can’t even read a balance sheet.”
After those salacious and unfounded claims, Noah surmised that Wolff was suggesting Trump was “a buffoon” who had stumbled into the presidency:
Right. You must forgive me if I'm just shocked at all of this because you almost feel like it's depressing that he's not a mastermind that is planning all of this. We are just all dealing with a buffoon is almost what you're saying.
“Yeah, he's stupid,” Wolff happily obliged, as the audience cheered. Like a high school bully instead of a grown man, Wolff kept rolling with the petty insults.
“I mean, it's why -- and one of the most wounding things you can say to him or that people can say about him is that he's stupid. His head is -- his hair is going up right now. He's also bald,” he grinned as the audience laughed.
Noah got one more question in before ending the show. Seizing on Wolff’s latest claim, that Trump had an ongoing affair with someone within in the White House, Noah asked where he got his information, as he couldn’t find it in the book.
“Where do you get this from?” he asked.
But the sleazy journalist would only promote his book. “You just have to read the book,” he reiterated.
“You have to somewhat read between the lines and you have to see. I'm not going -- just the book -- it's -- it's there,” Wolff said.
“But it's not there,” the talk show host argued back.
“It is there,” Wolff repeated.
Finally Noah wrapped up the interview by praising, “You're really good at selling the book, man,” as the show ended.
