On Tuesday The View premiered its 20th season, continuing its tradition of outrageous liberal views. The show began with “Hot Topics,” discussing NFL player Colin Kaepernick’s protest of the National Anthem that made waves in the media this past week. Of course the mostly liberal panel stood up for the multi-millionaire’s protest against his "oppression." Co-host Joy Behar had the strangest defense for Kaepernick, saying that it made him “more American” to disrespect the flag, even suggesting that protesters who burned the flag were more patriotic than the rest of us.
JOY BEHAR: What he's talking about is a very big problem, racism in America. It's very difficult I think for the average individual to fight racism in America. Very difficult. So this is his way of bringing it to people's attention and he's using his constitutional right. It's ironic isn’t it? That the thing that you have to do is actually burn the flag, don't stand up, don’t put your hand-- Those are the things that make it more American. That's the beauty of the constitution. [ Applause ] It makes it even more American to do that!
While GMA’s Paula Faris disagreed with Kaepernick’s method of protest, saying there were other ways to get your message across, co-host Whoopi Goldberg compared Kaepernick to President Obama’s former controversial pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright.
WHOOPI: [E]ight years ago when people were very upset with president Obama for staying in Reverend Wright's church because he was saying “The hell with America,” “I'm mad as hell at America.” People didn’t understand. Reverend Wright was saying it and people kept saying “he should be leaving the church.” I said, “You understand why Reverend Wright is angry? Because he fought in World War II for other people's freedom and came back and had to step off the sidewalk for white folk because his freedom wasn't -- it wasn't there.” So maybe sometimes folks might feel -- these young people were coming back who are marching, veterans who are marching, saying we're fighting for everybody else's freedom but stuff is happening to us and no one is paying attention.” [Applause]
She added, “The b***h about all of this is we're still protesting the same thing. That's the awful, that’s the awful part.” [ Applause ]
