Elitist Media Find Real Scandal is Not Nidal Hasan’s Jihad but His Livestreamed Execution

October 9th, 2026 1:17 AM

The Elitist Media evening news struggled to report that former Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan’s execution will be livestreamed, as announced by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. The execution and livestream was framed as more scandalous than Hasan’s heinous act, which was downplayed into the ether.

None could muster a basic telling of the facts, to wit:

An Army psychiatrist who reportedly feared an impending war deployment is in custody as the sole suspect in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas that left 12 dead and 31 wounded, an Army official said Thursday night

.…

The shooting took place 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the post's Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers undergo medical screening before being deployed or after returning from overseas.

The article further notes Hasan’s opposition to the war, and blog post comparing jihadi suicide bombers to soldiers who dive on a grenade in order to save others. NBC News contemporaneously noted the last words of some of Hasan’s victims. Pretty sick stuff that was an open record 17 years ago but has faded over time. Sadly, none of this made it into today’s reporting.

Instead, here’s how ABC covered news of the livestreamed execution:

ABC WORLD NEWS TONIGHT

DAVID MUIR: In the meantime, the other news this Thursday night. This evening, Defense secretary Pete Hegseth on the deck of the USS Lincoln, revealing his plan late today to publicly execute the Fort Hood shooter by firing squad. Hegseth, in a prerecorded interview, said the public will be able to watch. The Defense Department official confirming to ABC News tonight that they plan to livestream this execution. Trevor Ault on board the USS Lincoln.

TREVOR AULT: Tonight as sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln return home from their record setting deployment. Secretary Pete Hegseth making new headlines just a short time ago while talking about Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, Hegseth saying the killer will face execution by firing squad and now says he will make sure that people can watch it, that it will be done publicly. And tonight, a Defense official confirms the execution will be livestreamed. Prompted during an interview with a conservative news outlet on the deck of the Lincoln late yesterday, Hegseth said this:

JACK POSOBIEC: Major Hasan, this news that came down regarding firing squad. Can you tell us about how that came about and what led to that decision process?

PETE HEGSETH: No-brainer. Execution by firing squad. Army major betrays his country. Radical islamist kills a bunch of Americans at Fort Hood. Of course we're going to do it at Fort Hood and do it on a Thursday. We're going to do it at 1:00, which is when he did it. And it's going to be soldiers with rifles executing the firing squad.

AULT: Hegseth saying the public will be able to watch.

HEGSETH: We'll make sure that people are able to- to watch it, that it's public, because people need to understand that this is a- there's serious consequences for these types of things.

AULT: The shooter's attorney tonight saying Hegseth’s pledge for a public execution is “political theater,” calling his comments “irresponsible.” Now, David, if this execution takes place in December, and Hegseth says it will, it would be the first public execution in the U.S. in some 90 years. And that Defense official tells ABC News it will be livestreamed. David.

MUIR: Trevor Ault with us live tonight. Trevor, thank you.

The livestreamed execution seems to be the greater scandal. What’s worse, correspondent TrevorAult couldn’t even bring himself to say anything about what Hasan did in the first place, instead running Secretary Hegseth’s announcement on Real America’s Voice.

These one-sentence recitations of the underlying facts were unfortunately common to coverage of the livestream announcement. Watch CBS’s brief report:

TONY DOKOUPIL: We also have news tonight on the Pentagon's plans for the Fort Hood shooter convicted of that rampage in Texas in 2009. He will die by firing squad December 3rd, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said today that death will be public. More now from Senior National Security Correspondent Charlie D'Agata in Washington. Charlie, good evening.

CHARLIE D’AGATA: Yeah. Tony, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon will make sure that people are able to watch the execution of Nidal Hasan. The U.S. Official confirmed tonight that it is expected to be livestreamed. It’s scheduled for December 3rd at 2:00 P.M. Eastern at Fort Hood. That's the same time 17 years ago Hasan opened fire killing 13 people wounding 32 more at Fort Hood, a massacre he later said was carried out in support of the Taliban. So Secretary Hegseth justified the public airing of the execution, saying people need to understand there are serious consequences, but obviously this would be an extraordinary event. An execution viewable by the general public is virtually unheard of. Now, if it happens, the Pentagon said it would be the first execution by firing squad, by the Army, since World War II. Tony.

DOKOUPIL: Charlie, thank you.

Charlie D managed a sentence on what Hasan actually did. But in trying to frame the livestreamed execution as extraordinary, he uncorked the line about public executions being “virtually unheard of.” Executions in the United States stopped being public about a century ago. Before that, public executions were quite commonplace throughout the United States. The weird historic deflection seems to have little purpose other than to further the narrative against the livestreaming of this execution.

NBC’s brief touched on some of the same points:

NBC NIGHTLY NEWS

10/8/26

TOM LLAMAS: This is also breaking tonight, the Pentagon saying the execution of the shooter in the deadly attack on Fort Hood will now be livestreamed. Kelly O'Donnell joins us now. And Kelly, this comes after we earlier learned President Trump ordered that execution will be a firing squad.

KELLY O’DONNELL: Tom. That's right. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recommended to the president using a firing squad for the execution of former Army Major Nidal Hasan. That method has not been used by the military since the 1940s. Hegseth said today the American people should be able to see this for themselves. And a Defense official said the Pentagon plans to transmit the execution by livestream. Hasan, you'll remember, was convicted of premeditated murder for a 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. He killed 13 and injured more than 30 others. Evidence showed he had been radicalized for jihad. Hasan represented himself and would have the right to appeal in federal court. Tom.

LLAMAS: Kelly O’Donnell for us. Kelly, thank you.

“He had been radicalized for jihad” was the most that Kelly O’Donnell could muster here. There is no mention of his screeds, his motivations, his talk of “fighting the oppressors”, or anything specific to his terrorist attack, which consisted of shooting up a medical processing center for soldiers soon deploying overseas inside a U.S. military installation that was a gun-free zone.

The greater crime, in the eyes of the Elitist Media, is that Hasan’s execution may be livestreamed. God forbid someone should face public accountability for their crimes. Especially this crime.
