OUT OF TOUCH: Biden’s Economic Record = ‘Formidable,’ GOP Border Policy = ‘Painful’

February 3rd, 2024 8:55 AM

Proving how out-of-touch and stuck in their media bubble they are, journalists like MSNBC’s Alex Wagner cheered President Biden’s “formidable” and “bonkers” record on the economy and couldn’t believe he wasn’t doing better in the polls. ABC’s Mary Bruce figured it must be because Team Biden hasn’t been more aggressive, as she scolded Vice President Kamala Harris to “attack Donald Trump” more.

Leftist journalists like MSNBC’s Joy Reid and Ali Velshi derided Republicans for their cruel and “painful” border policies that were reminiscent of segregation days.

This past month also saw celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Charlamagne tha God warn about the inevitable “end of democracy,” should Trump return to the White House.

The following are just some of the most insane takes from leftist journalists and celebrities during the month of January:

Biden Has Done a “Bang-Up Job” with the Economy, His “Formidable Record” is “Bonkers!”

“I think there is a lot of trepidation and concern about his age, but like, let’s be real. Biden has done a bang-up job with the economy, he has canceled student loan debt….he has done more on climate than any other American president….His record, given a one-seat majority in the Senate is bonkers….The fact that the dude is old should not erase what is a formidable record for his first three years in office.”
— MSNBC host Alex Wagner on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, January 24.

Impatient ABC’s Mary Bruce Scolds Kamala Harris: “Attack” Trump More!

“Why not go out and attack Donald Trump — go after his legal challenges? What are you guys waiting for?”
— Correspondent Mary Bruce to Vice President Kamala Harris on ABC’s This Week, January 21.

Securing the Border Is Like Segregation

“This massive resistance, it sounds like the old Southerners who said that we will resist integration by any means necessary, that [GOP Rep.] Chip Roy language. How does that read inside of the Latino community?”
— Host Joy Reid on MSNBC’s The ReidOut, January 24.

Republicans Want “Immigration” to Be a “Painful Process,” the “Cruelty is the Point”

“They [Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis] want to let fewer brown people in. They want immigration to be the most painful process possible. They want to set new records in deportations….It is a plan around which Republicans are largely unified….[Texas Republican] Governor Abbott is currently facing up with a Biden administration in court about whether it was illegal for Abbott to put the razor wire up in the first place. But legal or illegal, and it probably is illegal, the cruelty is the point.”
— Substitute host Ali Velshi on MSNBC’s Alex Wagner Tonight, January 3.

Expand the Supreme Court Before Conservative Justices End “Civil Rights”

Host Joy Reid: “Expanding the Court is starting to catch on even with people who originally opposed it because these guys [Republicans] have a political agenda….Ending women’s rights to an abortion, ending civil rights, just basically rolling back the entire 20th century Supreme Court jurisprudence. They’re doing it so systematically that they’re not stoppable if you don’t expand the Court.”...
The Nation’s justice correspondent Elie Mystal: “They are winning on the vibes and remaking the law back in their image of the 1950s and the 1850s.”
— MSNBC’s The ReidOut, January 17.

Trump Is Selling Himself as “Strongman Leader” Who Will “End Elections”

“What he’s [Donald Trump] offering is…. ‘If you pick me, that’ll be the end of politics, and you won’t have to deal with politics anymore. You won’t have to deal with contested elections, you won’t have to deal with contests or divisions when it comes to power, you’ll have a strongman leader and I’ll just do what I want. And won’t that be a lot simpler?’...That strongman model is what the Republican base is enthused about….We are naive to think he is tricking people into picking him and then surprise he’s gonna act like a dictator. What he is offering is strongman leadership, the end of politics, the end of elections.”
— MSNBC host Rachel Maddow on Inside with Jen Psaki, January 22.

Todd’s Turn to Compare Trump to Hitler

“How did such a civilized nation like Germany end up bringing a tyrant like Adolf Hitler to power? Why wasn’t he stopped sooner? Why did it take a global war to stop him? Why did the German people usher him in, in the first place? Why didn’t the German people rise up themselves and stop him and the Nazis?...This recent history is what has motivated so many entities in American politics to make decisions on their own to confront the perceived threat of Trump. The lesson we all have taken from history is to stand up to tyrants, not to cower…. It’s the Republican Party members who are either going to have to do it or lose their careers trying. Because one day, association with Trump won’t be a golden ticket to winning a GOP primary, but a mark of shame in the history books. Let’s hope we won’t need to build new museums or exhibits to prove to the American public we’ve learned a lesson.”
— Former NBC’s Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd in a January 5 NBCNews.com article.

Chris Matthews to Trump Voters: “Enjoy the Tyranny”

“I hope the people that are voting for Trump in these primaries enjoy the tyranny that may be coming to this country, because the tyranny is what it’s about. When 62 percent of the people say they don’t care if he’s been convicted….He doesn’t believe in women’s rights. He believes women needed to be punished. That’s what he told me. He wants the punishment.”
— Former MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, January 16.

Mika Brzezinszki to Jill Biden: How Do You Withstand the “Cruelty of MAGA Republicans?”

“There have been Senate races, three presidential campaigns, eight years of your husband serving as vice president. Unthinkable personal loss, and challenge, and now democracy is on the ballot. What do you think when you hear people say, ‘Well, I just can’t vote for Joe Biden this election?’ What is it they may not know about him at this point especially when the alternative seems to want to change this nation so radically?”...
“Does yet another one [campaign] give you any pause thinking of, like, the personal health and well-being for both of you? The division in this country, the cruelty of MAGA Republicans against your family. Does any part of you once in a while think, ugh, maybe we bow out?”...
“How have you been coping personally with the onslaught of accusations against your husband and your family, including and especially Hunter as the focus of a House Oversight Committee hearing holding, holding him in contempt, obsessing over him showing pictures of him during vulnerable moments in his battle with addiction on the floor of the House. This would crush any family.”
— Co-host Mika Brzezinski’s questions to First Lady Jill Biden as aired on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, January 11.

CNN: It Depends On What Your Definition of “Stealing” Is

“We should note that [former Harvard president] Claudine Gay has not been accused of stealing anyone’s ideas in any of her writings. She’s been accused of, sort of, more like copying other people’s writings without attribution.”
— Correspondent Matt Eagan on CNN News Central, January 2.

Plagiarist President Really Forced Out to Make Room for “White Men” at Harvard

“There is this sort of open war on Black progress, Black history. Claudine Gay, the president of Harvard University….is now the latest casualty of that. [Manhattan Institute Fellow] Christopher Rufo, who is out there….claiming the scalp of Claudine Gay, telegraphed that this was what they were going to do. They were going to associate these DEI professors of colleges with BLM and decolonization and Hamas in the public mind and get rid of them….Why are these elite colleges capitulating to it and essentially making it so uncomfortable for these women leaders that they have to step down to be replaced by white men? Because that is the goal of Christopher Rufo and his gang.”
— Host Joy Reid on MSNBC’s The ReidOut, January 2.

There Won’t Be “Any More Elections,” After Donald “Dictator For Life” Trump Wins!

“Do you see yourself and would you ever consider being the conduit to that third party? Because I don’t know if the Republican Party as we knew it will survive this because if he [Donald Trump] ever gets in again we’ll never have any more elections. There will be no more. He will stop it and he’s very clear about that. He wants to be dictator for life!”
— Co-host Whoopi Goldberg to Liz Cheney on ABC’s The View, January 10.

Hitler Couldn’t Take a Joke Either and Look What Happened!

“He [Donald Trump] is one of the most dangerous people of my lifetime to ever be in the Oval Office!….And he doesn’t have a good sense of humor. We all know at the correspondents’ dinner, when President Obama made a joke about him….And he got so pissed off, that he had to run for president….Charlie Chaplin made fun of Hitler in 1940, by 1945 millions and millions were dead!...I could make a joke about him [Trump] and he’ll annihilate the whole world!”
— Co-host Joy Behar on ABC’s The View, January 30.

Biden Has Been S**** But At Least He Won’t End Democracy

“I think that President Biden historically, has been [for] lack of a better word, a shitty elected official. But, you know, Donald Trump is the end of democracy as we know it.”
— Comedian/The Breakfast Club host Charlamagne tha God on CNN’s NewsNight, January 9.

How Can a Journalist Be Objective to Republicans Who Are “Fine With Autocracy” and Want to Suppress Black Voters Like You?

“How hard is it to maintain or to uphold or point toward the ethics of objective reporting when you’re not necessarily reporting Coke and Pepsi? You’re reporting, like, one group of people [Democrats] still believes in democracy and another group of people [Republicans] is fine with autocracy and would be fine if you did not vote? Specifically, you, Jelani, did not vote.”
— Host Stephen Colbert to Columbia Journalism School Dean and New Yorker staff writer Jelani Cobb on CBS’s The Late Show, January 24.

Jamie Lee Curtis Doesn’t Want You to Misgender Her Inanimate Academy Award

“It [Oscar statue] lives in my house….I have degendered it. I have a trans daughter and there is no genitalia [on the statue]. It lives in my office….and I put a ‘they/them’ button to just make sure anybody coming in understood.”
— Actress Jamie Lee Curtis on ABC’s The View, January 19.
