Over at our sister site CNS News, intern Lucy Collins published a stunning piece Tuesday pushing back against what The Dispatch’s Jonah Goldberg has called “emotional bullying” on gun control as, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) statistics, “204.5 times more babies were killed by abortion than the number of deaths by firearms of children ages 1 to 19 years old in 2019.”
Collins laid out the stats that, despite the fear-mongering in the liberal media that mass shootings are lurking around the corner and looking to kill you, babies and children murdered from abortion far outnumber those also tragically taken away:
In 2019, there were 629,898 abortion deaths (reported) and 3,080 firearm deaths – a ratio of 204.5 to 1. (This does not include abortion data from California, Maryland, and New Hampshire, which are not reported to the CDC; firearm deaths in those states for people ages 1-19 were also excluded for comparison.)
(....)
In 2019, there were 10,546 total deaths (all causes) for those aged 1 to 19 from states that reported their abortion numbers to the CDC. Given the 629,898 reported abortions, this means there were 59.7 times more abortion deaths than total deaths for children ages 1 to 19 in 2019.
Moving to 2020, Collins said that “the numbers are slightly different because only 42 states have so far reported their abortions,” but based on what’s been reported out, there were 513,716 abortions versus 3,664 firearms deaths for those ages 1 to 19. Thus far, that ratio would work out to “deaths by abortion were 140.2 times more than firearm deaths of minors.”
