CBS Touts Hillary Receiving Question from Young Boy at Rally on Equal Pay; ‘Pay Perspective’

December 30th, 2015 12:09 PM

With the year winding down and the news cycle slowing (aside from the weather), Wednesday’s CBS This Morning found it proper to reserve 59 seconds for fawning over Hillary Clinton receiving a question on Tuesday from a young boy about equal pay.

Spinning it in the on-screen headline as some “pay perspective” from Clinton, fill-in co-host Margaret Brennan started the brief by making clear that the former secretary of state “did not mention Trump by name at a rally in New Hampshire” and instead “argued the economy does better when a Democrat is president.”

Turning to one of the questions from the kid-centered event (in which most of the questions came from children), Brennan explained: “She also got a question about equal pay for women. It came from a young boy whose mother is a teacher and his father is an engineer.”

To the amusement of the crowd, the boy told Clinton: “I think my mother isn't working much harder — is working more harder than my father and she deserves to have more money — like get more money than my father.”

Following a laugh, Clinton responded that the boy was “really so sweet” and opined that “we still have problems and if you deny those problems, you are denying the fastest way to increase incomes in America and that is to make sure women are paid what they deserve in the job that they do.”

Before moving on with the show, Brennan added: “The former secretary of state was also asked if she would serve in another Democratic cabinet. She said, let's not put any carts before any horses.”

Of course, it begs the question of whether or not any of the networks would reserve separate space in a news brief for a conservative candidate if they were asked a question by a child on, say, abortion, traditional marriage, or keeping the country safe. Based on what we’ve seen this year from the liberal media, that answer would be a resounding no.

The transcript of the extended brief from December 30's CBS This Morning can be found below.

[ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: Pay Perspective; Clinton Responds to Young Boy About Equal Wages]

MARGARET BRENNAN: Clinton do not mention Trump by name at a rally in New Hampshire. She argued the economy does better when a Democrat is president. She also got a question about equal pay for women. It came from a young boy whose mother is a teacher and his father is an engineer.

UNIDENTIFIED YOUNG BOY [TO CLINTON]: I think my mother isn't working much harder — is working more harder than my father and she deserves to have more money — like get more money than my father.

HILLARY CLINTON: Oh, that is really so sweet! [SCREEN WIPE] I think that we still have problems and if you deny those problems, you are denying the fastest way to increase incomes in America and that is to make sure women are paid what they deserve in the job that they do.

BRENNAN: The former secretary of state was also asked if she would serve in another Democratic cabinet. She said, let's not put any carts before any horses.
