Fox News Highlights Gun Owners Fighting Off Armed Criminals

On Tuesday morning, Fox News Channel's Fox & Friends show gave attention to two examples of the kind of pro-gun stories that are generally underreported in the dominant media.

In a case out of Bay Point, California, surveillance video recorded a Kam's Market store clerk defending himself by shooting one of two armed robbers, and, near Houston, a homeowner shot and killed three armed home invaders after they entered his home.

At 6:39 a.m. on the Christmas Eve edition of the show, news reader Jillian Mele read a 21-second brief on the Texas case:

JILLIAN MELE: A homeowner shoots and kills three people breaking into his home. The shooting happened just outside Houston. The homeowner was injured in the exchange of gunfire with the three armed men. Officers say a car was left running outside the house, which shows they may have wanted to make a quick getaway. It's not clear if the burglars knew the homeowner.

An hour later, Mele devoted 41 seconds to the case out of California. She began: "A store clerk shoots and kills an armed robbery suspect after getting pistol-whipped. The veteran's fight for his life all caught on camera."

A video clip was then shown of the clerk, Mark Kasbrowicz, shooting at one of the two robbers as they both fled the store. Mele added: "The clerk says his instincts kicked in when he reached for a gun in the drawer to defend himself."

Then came a soundbite of the clerk discussing the incident:

MARK KASBROWICZ, STORE CLERK: I don't know if it was fear and adrenaline kicked in together, but I kind of, you know, tried to protect myself a little. … Sure, you know, he's deceased now, but, then again, I'm lucky to be alive. I'm lucky my co-worker is alive.

Mele ended by noting that the other robber escaped.
