CNN's Preston: Hillary More Qualified Than 'Many, Many, Many' Other Presidents

July 28th, 2016 2:31 PM

Appearing as a panel member on Thursday's New Day, CNN Politics Executive Director Mark Preston pronounced that President Barack Obama was "absolutely right" in proclaiming that Hillary Clinton is "more qualified" than either he or Bill Clinton were when they were elected President, as he went even further and declared that "if you are only going to go by the resume and what they have done their whole life, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and many, many, many other Presidents do not have the resume that she has. I mean, that's the bottom line."

At 5:10 a.m. ET, co-host Alisyn Camerota cited President Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention as she raised the issue:

Hey, Mark, when President Obama said, "There's never been a person before more qualified -- not me, not Bill," was that a nod or a return of the favor from 2012 when Bill Clinton said, "Not even I could have gotten us out of a recession this well"?

After commenting, "Nice payback, isn't it? It was great payback," Preston added:

Even on paper -- even on paper, he was absolutely right. I mean, if you are only going to go by the resume and what they have done their whole life, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and many, many, many other Presidents do not have the resume that she has. I mean, that's the bottom line.

He continued:

I think what he was trying to do is two things: One, try to humanize her. And, two, play the competency card against Donald Trump who he basically said time and time again was incompetent.
