A new poll stating that even 41% of Democrats oppose abolishing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) has yet to make it to the newscasts of liberal Hispanic media outlets, a segment that typically goes overboard covering anything anti-Trump regarding immigration - separation of families, the border wall, undocumented holding centers, DACA, sanctuary cities, you name it.
The silence suggests that the four networks monitored in this instance by MRC Latino – Univision, Telemundo, Azteca America and Estrella TV, preferred keeping their viewers in the dark about the latest Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research findings in which pollsters carefully crafted questions to respondents, for example; “Thinking about children who were separated from their families at the border, do you think the Trump Administration is doing too much, about the right amount or too little to reunite them?
A look at the MCR Latino files available online at NewsBusters will find many instances where anti-ICE news is given prime coverage, as you can appreciate here and here. In some cases, as shown here, the topic easily beats out important positive news for the community, such as record-low Hispanic unemployment.
On August 27, for example, not only did the referenced Hispanic news outlets ignore the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll, but also record highs for the S&P 500 and NASDAQ propelled by the announcement of the new trade deal between the United States and Mexico announced by President Trump, as well as another poll, this one by Telemundo’s own sister network, NBC, showing that Republicans have a 43% to 29% advantage over Democrats when it comes to handling the economy.
