Anti-Trump Song Gets Top Billing on Azteca America TV

August 30th, 2016 7:20 AM

As usual, Azteca America takes the cake for the most over-the-top anti-Trump news on U.S. Spanish-language television.

In its national evening newscast, the U.S. subsidiary of the Mexican television conglomerate devoted almost three minutes to what amounted to an extended anti-Trump ad in the form of a musical rant by Mexican singer-songwriter Serralde.

Instead of including any pro-Trump reaction, Azteca America let the anti-Trump message flow uncontested, repeatedly warning Hispanic voters to not let Trump “deceive” them with perceived changes in immigration policy.

SERRALDE, MEXICAN SINGER-SONGWRITER: ♪ No more insults, no more, no more racism, no more, no more fights, no, no more of Trump, no more of Trump. I come to ask you to go out and vote to put an end to Trump, may he go far away, far away from here, and may he never return. He’s insulted women and the whole world, now he wants to tell us that he’s changed so we vote for him, please don’t believe him. No more insults, no more, no more racism, no more, no more fights, no, no more of Trump. No more insults, no more, no more racism, no more, no more fights, no, no more of Trump, no more of Trump, no more of Trump. ♪

The song’s lyrics read like a recited drill of Democratic talking points. Any journalistic value would end after no more than 15 or 20 seconds, but on and on it goes. Go figure.

The full segment opens with Azteca anchor Roberto Ruiz echoing the words of Jorge Ramos, hung up on the same 11 words from Trump’s announcement speech without giving any context and then saying that the Republican nominee now has a “very different” position on the matter. The newscast wastes no time providing any details or analysis of what that “different” position is. Meanwhile, Trump’s immigration position is easily accessed on his website.

Serralde's currently works as radio host and producer in Los Angeles, California. His Facebook page routinely has ads which consist of selfies along with the text of how he can hook you up with auto insurance that costs $1, or with a contractor friend to fix your house. The link to his website on Facebook leads to a dead end.

Maybe Serralde and Azteca America are trying out the Les Moonves Playbook to catch the Trump Train to stardom?

ROBERTO RUIZ, ANCHOR, AZTECA AMERICA: The reality is that the Republican candidate Trump began his campaign more than a year ago with a speech in which he promised massive deportations, in which he called Mexicans “rapists” and “drug traffickers”.
