With the November election looming, liberals are leaping at any chance to blast conservatives. And the Emmy Awards on Sept. 23 both rewarded liberal TV shows and offered Hollywood celebs a chance to slight right-wingers.
Emcee Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t wait to take a shot at Republicans and Romney before the awards even started.
“I will admit that “Downton Abbey” is an amazing show. There’s so much meticulous attention to detail. It’s not the kind of show I typically watch, but it really gives you a sense of what it must have been like to grow up in Mitt Romney's house,” Kimmel said.
He continued further with a joke aimed at Chick-fil-A. “It's difficult to be a Republican in Hollywood. Being a Republican in Hollywood is like being aChick-fil-A sandwich on the snack table at ‘Glee.’”
The theme of the Emmys centered on mocking conservatives, and specifically Sarah Palin. “Game Change,” an HBO-created hit job on Palin, won “Best Miniseries,” “Best Directing for a Miniseries,” and “Best Actress in a Miniseries.”
That “Game Change” would clean up in its categories was a foregone conclusion, given how it reinforced liberal prejudices and hatred of Palin. Even before its release, veteran Palin-basher Woody Harrelson raved “Game Change” revealed the McCain-Palin ticket for what it really was. “This wasn’t a campaign, it was a bad reality show,” Harrelson said.
In a February Bozell column the MRC noted, “More than one adviser raised the possibility of Palin being mentally ill. And some of the actions and words attributed to her in the film lend credence to that smear. [Baltimore film critic] Zurawik adds, ‘I can’t wait to hear the self-serving howls on Fox News when they see how Roger Ailes' million-dollar analyst mistake is depicted in the film.’”
Julianne Moore won her Emmy for her despicable portrayal of Palin. “I feel so validated because Sarah Palin gave me a big thumbs down,” Moore said in her acceptance speech.
And the poltics didn’t end with Palin. Julia Louis-Dreyfus won Best Actress in a comedy series for HBO’s “Veep.”
“Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays Selina Meyer, whose party is not revealed, but it doesn’t take long to determine she’s a liberal version of Sarah Palin, identified with clean-energy jobs and filibuster reform,” NewsBusters wrote in April.
To wrap up the political mess “Jon Stewart” won an Emmy for the Daily Show. Stewart famously schilled for the liberal-created “Republican war on women” and drew criticism for portraying the Nativity as an accessory for female genitals.
