Moderna, a major beneficiary of President Donald Trump’s Operation Warp Speed, announced yesterday its vaccine had achieved nearly 95 percent effectiveness against COVID-19. Afterwards, stocks skyrocketed to break records.
But if you were watching the ABC and NBC evening news shows last night, you heard nothing about the stock market.
Following the Moderna vaccine news the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained a massive 470.63 points “to 29950.44, its first record close since February and within striking distance of the yet-to-be-reached 30000 milestone,” The Wall Street Journal reported. Its last record was February 12, when the Dow closed at 29,551.42. The Dow has erased all of its pandemic losses and moved past its February peak. But that’s not all. The S&P 500 also jumped “to a second consecutive record close, with the benchmark index gaining 41.76 points, or 1.2% to 3626.91.” [Emphasis added.]
But guess what: ABC’s World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News ignored reporting the stock market news at all, continuing a demented trend of ignoring good news in the market and the economy that benefits Trump’s administration.
On the eve of the election, both the ABC and NBC evening networks ignored reporting major news that U.S. manufacturing had hit a two-year high. This means that U.S. manufacturing circumvented the deleterious effects the pandemic and the state-inflicted shutdowns had on the economy. Specifically, CNBC had reported that U.S. manufacturing “accelerated in October, with new orders jumping to their highest level in nearly 17 years amid a shift in spending toward goods like motor vehicles as the COVID-19 pandemic drags on.” [Emphasis added.]
ABC and NBC ignored news that could have informed voters who were going to the ballot box the next day. But the networks had an agenda to help former Vice President Joe Biden, so giving Trump a boost on the economic front would have hurt their preferred candidate.
The Media Research Center had documented 13 instances in 2020 where the ABC and NBC evening news shows have censored good news in the economy and the market that benefitted Trump going into the November election.
The evening networks’ morning news show counterparts have proven to be just as bad.
When the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released a jaw-dropping report Nov. 6 showing a 638,000 job increase against 530,000 expected and an entire percentage point drop in the unemployment rate, both ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today censored that news.
Conservatives are under attack. Contact ABC News (818-460-7477) and NBC News (212- 664-6192) and hold them to account for ignoring good economic and market news under Trump throughout the 2020 electoral cycle.
