Politico Claimed Trump Took Credit for Obama Economy, Now Calls It ‘Trump’s Coronavirus Economy’

It finally happened. A liberal outlet got around to saying this was President Donald Trump’s economy, but only because it’s being wrecked by the Wuhan coronavirus.

In an April 29, Politico Playbook PM newsletter, which aggregates top headlines, Politico had this disgusting headline take the #2 spot in its list written in all caps: “PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP’S CORONAVIRUS ECONOMY." The caption continued: “GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT shrunk by an annual rate of 4.8% in the first quarter -- the worst contraction in a dozen years, since the Great Recession.”

This is rich coming from the same outlet that bleated in September 2018 that “Trump fights to wrest credit for the economy from Obama.” Another Politico story published November 2018 was headlined “Obama swats Trump and the GOP for taking credit for economic growth.”

In a January 2019 story published in Politico Magazine, Senior Staff Writer Michael Grunwald wrote:

The Dow had increased 149 percent during President Barack Obama’s eight years in office, but Trump insisted he deserved the credit for a spectacular turnaround, repeatedly attacking the press for failing to acknowledge his genius.

Ah, so it appears that Obama deserved credit for the economy when it was soaring, and now it’s Trump’s economy when it’s plummeting because of the coronavirus. Got it.
