In his Tuesday morning newsletter at Substack, conservative talk radio host and 2025 MRC Bulldog Award winner Erick Erickson tore Washington Post hack Matt Viser a new one over his years of (largely) covering for his dearly beloved President Joe Biden and painting him as fully lucid and in control despite public videos and now books proving otherwise.

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart was not happy with CNN on Monday’s edition of The Daily Show as the network continued to promote Jake Tapper’s book about the cover-up of President Joe Biden’s mental decline amid his cancer diagnosis. The fact that the two could be related was not something Stewart even considered as a possibility.

MRC analysts looked at ABC, CBS and NBC’s evening and morning news programs, as well as PBS’s News Hour from May 13 through the morning of May 19 and found they spent a grand total of 7 minutes and 16 seconds on the reporting from Tapper and his co-author Alex Thompson. 

As news was breaking of former President Joe Biden’s advanced cancer diagnosis, there immediately emerged efforts to turn the diagnosis into a vehicle with which to suppress scrutiny of the former president based on the respective releases of the Hur tapes and the Tapper/Thompson book Original Sin. With the imminent release of the first of what will surely be a legion of books authored by Legacy Media types on the obvious cognitive decline of President Joe Biden, there is a modicum of media self-interest in reporting on the book’s disclosures. But there remains a hesitancy to cover this issue at the Legacy newscasts.

At last night’s White House Correspondents’ Association gala, more colloquially known as NerdProm, there was a rare call to reflection amidst all the media self-congratulation. In it, though, there was unwarranted absolution.
