Comedian and Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead threw a hissyfit when initially Apple rejected her feminist app “Hinder,” a satirical rip-off of the dating app “Tinder”: it allows a user to swipe “anti-women” politicians, much like Tinder users can reject potential dates they find objectionable.
Apple has since backed away from its initial ban on the app after Winstead went and whined to the Daily Beast that she was “short-shrifted” by the company:
It’s shocking… It never occurred to me that my app would get rejected. We knew the rules but we saw the exemption and we’re like: Oh, right.
Feeling slighted that Apple didn’t recognize her as one of the brainy “inventors of political satire” let alone a professional, she complained:
Women are erased enough…I’ve been an integral part of projects in the satirical political space. To have them not know that—not do any research on what I do for a living is pathetic.
The “Hinder” tagline proudly states “expose anti-choice douchebags with a swipe!” and displays every pro-life politician on screen so they can be lambasted by angry feminists who probably couldn’t hack it on “Tinder” so they turned to “Hinder” to take out their angst by swiping left. Oooh that'll teach em!
Winstead told the Daily Beast, “The fact that we can’t have an app that’s funny and smart and showcases actually what’s happening is absurd.”
She may have a point. This app would be great to include short segments of Planned Parenthood videos. Perhaps a clip about a Planned Parenthood executive talking about selling enough body parts to buy a Lamborghini, or a clip that shows how the abortionist can extract the baby without “crunching” the organs, or a clip of dismembered baby body parts in a bucket - you know, to “actually show what’s happening.”
As ridiculous as this “Hinder” app is, it’s nothing new for Winstead. She’s the creator of “Lady Parts Justice,” a “humorous” website that, along with a singing pink puppet uterus named “Eunice the Uterus,” educates women on “reproductive rights.”
Leave it to an angry feminist to make light of a serious topic such as abortion. That's not funny. That's tasteless.
