Actor Tim Allen announced at a Television Critics Association interview that season 5 of the ABC sitcom "Last Man Standing" is going to get political, and neither Hillary Clinton nor Donald Trump is going to be safe from Allen's character, the wisecracking Mike Baxter.
"We're going to drill Hillary," the star told Foxnews.com at the Television Critics Association Q&A session for his ABC series. "It will be horrible personally if Hillary continued [to lead the Democrats], but it will be great for the storyline if she continues."
Despite being a Republican, Allen isn't throwing his support behind frontrunner Donald Trump. "I sat with a group of liberal Jewish guys who said, 'When Trump starts to make sense, we know the world is upside down,'" Allen says. Then he jokes, "Until I see what's under that hair, I can't really support him."
Allen is a John Kasich backer. "I went to see him at an L.A. town meeting, which is usually a very liberal forum," he said. "He talked about poor people -- the underprivileged and the working poor. It was very un-Republican. He's a Republican that a Democrat could vote for."
Foxnews.com noted that how far the comedy is going to be allowed to go with its candidate bashing depends on ABC, which has several times reined Allen in, like a 2012 script where he wanted to call Obama a communist for laughs.
Last fall, they did do a little Democrat-bashing on the show
Allen: “The Russians aren’t in bed. They’re doing jello shots in the Ukraine and you know who we have to blame for that?”
Allen and Daughter Eve (in Unison): “Obama.”
Allen’s wife on the show, Vanessa, neither confirmed nor denied her family’s accusation. Instead she added: “Couple years you guys, and you’ll have Hillary to blame for everything Vladimir Putin does.” Allen replied: “Wow, I like blaming her for stuff. Then again, to blame her she’d have to be President. These are the tough choices we face as Americans.”
