CBS’s Late Show host David Letterman made a quip during his opening monologue on Thursday that, considering all that’s going on with the New England Patriots and Deflategate, scandal-ridden presidential candidate Hillary Clinton “would be happy to delete” the relevant e-mails and texts for quarterback Tom Brady and the team.
Letterman’s joke about Clinton was not the only one made at her expense late Thursday night as NBC’s Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon jested that Clinton completely “made” up a recent poll that claims more Americans believe her to be honest and trustworthy than not.
On CBS, the soon-to-be-retired Letterman set up the Clinton joke by bringing up the release of the Deflategate report and how the Patriots “more probably than not” knew about the deflated footballs.
Letterman then noted that “there apparently are incriminating texts and e-mails about what they call Deflategate.” With that in mind, Letterman brought in Clinton: “Earlier today, Hillary announced that she would be happy to delete them.”
Meanwhile, Fallon made the latest in what’s been a number of jokes poking fun at Clinton in light of her scandals:
Well, here's what everyone is talking about. Some good news, actually, for Hillary Clinton. According to a new poll, 48 percent of Americans believe that Hillary Clinton is honest and trustworthy. [LAUGHTER] Then Hillary was like, “actually, I just made that poll up.” [LAUGHTER ] That doesn't help.
Not to be left out, Fallon saved space in his opening monologue for former President Bill Clinton and news that he will be participating in a question-and-answer session with Spanish-language network Univision:
I heard that Bill Clinton is going to speak at Univision's network presentation next week and participate in a Q and A. Apparently, he wants to connect with Latino voters in an effort to help Hillary. Well, that and it's one step closer to meeting Sofia Vergara. [LAUGHTER AND APPLAUSE] [IN BILL CLINTON VOICE] I'm a big fan.
