Politico reports that Kathleen Matthews, wife of liberal MSNBC host Chris Matthews and former news anchor for WJLA-ABC 7 in Washington, DC, is likely to run for Congress as a Democrat in 2016. Matthews will seek the seat being vacated by Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), who plans to run for U.S. Senate, replacing the retiring Senator Barbara Mikulski.
According to Politico:
Matthews, who has long talked about running for office, advocated Marriott’s move toward more progressive policies, including sustainability and LGBT friendliness. She pushed the company to open a hotel in Haiti after the earthquake — Bill Clinton attended the opening last month.
A top consultant told POLITICO: “Her successful career in local television plus her work for one of the region’s most respected employers definitely gives her a strong background to be a strong voice.”
Will Chris Matthews be able to cover his wife's congressional campaign fairly or will he announce on air that he has a "thrill up my leg" over her candidacy just like he did for then-candidate Obama? Stay tuned.
