Considering that Ed Schultz has been forced to apologize for calling Laura Ingraham a "slut" and for deceptively editing Rick Perry, one might think he would accept the regret of others. On Monday, however, the Ed Show anchor mocked a contrite Glenn Beck, deriding the conservative's reflection over past remarks as not going "far enough." [See video below. MP3 audio here.]
Beck has apologized for "stupid" statements he's made. With no sense of irony, Schultz berated Beck: "Running his mouth eventually caught up to him...Stupid doesn't begin to scratch the surface of what Beck said." The liberal host then played an extended montage of Beck calling Obama a "racist," among other comments. An unforgiving Schultz lectured, "Glenn Beck's submission didn't go far enough as I see it. His commentary wasn't just stupid, it was vile."
On May 24, 2011, Schultz sneered, "Like this right-wing slut, what’s her name, Laura Ingraham? Yeah, she’s a talk slut." He later apologized.
On August 15, 2011, Schultz played footage of Rick Perry apparently referring to Barack Obama as a "big, black cloud" hanging over America. Schultz then denounced this as proof of racism. It turns out Perry was referring to the debt and MSNBC took him out of context. Schultz later apologized.
Maybe the MSNBC journalist shouldn't be so quick to reject apologies. Of course, Schultz often says things he doesn't apologize for. A few examples:
MSNBC (September 23, 2009): The Republicans lie! They want to see you dead
MSNBC (April 26, 2011): This is what the Republican Party stands for, though: racism.
RADIO (August 11, 2009): Sometimes I think they want Obama to get shot. I do. I really think that there are conservative broadcasters in this country who would love to see Obama taken out.
MSNBC (August 25, 2010): We are going down a very dangerous road right now when a political organization like the Tea Party has members trying to intimidate elected public officials....Folks, this is what the Brown Shirts did in the 1930s in Germany.
RADIO (October 28, 2009, talking about Hadassah Lieberman): Does the word 'whore' apply?
RADIO (July 14, 2010): Shove those bastards right into the dirthole! This is about power! It's about winning!
RADIO (February 24, 2010): You're damn right, Dick Cheney's heart's a political football. We ought to rip it out and kick it around and stuff it back in him.

A transcript of the August 4 segment is below:
5:49
ED SCHULTZ: And in Pretenders tonight, was it something I said? Glenn Beck, the TV exile has a confession to make. Running his mouth eventually caught up to him.
GLENN BECK: When you live your life five hours a day on live television or radio, you're going to say stupid things. But we all live and learn.
SCHULTZ: Who chose to be on five hours a day? Stupid doesn't begin to scratch the surface of what Beck said.
GLENN BECK [Montage]: Bill is the average American here and I'm President Obama. This is the way I feel. [Gets out gas tank.] I feel like President Obama is just saying, you know, what? But they've got that. They haven't had a progressive leadership in Detroit for almost half a century. Progressive policies are keeping these people in slavery. Slavery to government, welfare, affirmative action, regulation, control overseas. Obama is apologizing for the Frenchy French, for our arrogance. You know, he's bowing to the Saudi Arabian king, I don't know if you saw that one. This President I think has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep seated hatred for white people or the white culture. I don't know what it is. He's also closing Gitmo and letting the terrorists onto the under the streets. This guy is, I believe a racist.
Maybe I'm alone but I think it would be this faster if he just shot me in the head. You know what I mean? How much more -- How much more can he disenfranchise all of us?
SCHULTZ: Glenn Beck's submission didn't go far enough as I see it. His commentary wasn't just stupid, it was vile. Not a lot has changed. If Glenn Beck thinks he's learned anything, he can keep on pretending.
