Media Research Center President Brent Bozell appeared on Fox News’ “The Kelly File” last night and condemned the media for its continued blackout of the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups. Bozell’s comments came after Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the scandal, was recalled by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to answer questions related to her involvement in the targeting of conservative organizations.
We know that the person that was put in charge of this investigation turns out to be an Obama donor, a clear conflict of interest. And now Lois Lerner, who is at the center of all this, says she will testify if she’s given immunity from federal prosecution, and these liberals are saying there isn’t a scandal?” proclaimed Bozell. The MRC president continued his dissection of the press by pointing out that “just to give you an understanding of this, since June 26th of last year, the total amount of time ABC News has given to what I just told you, 22 seconds.” Kelly replied: “Wow. That’s unbelievable, Brent. I mean, that is literally unbelievable. Is that documented?” Bozell said yes.
MRC has documented that a 22-second brief on the November 27 Good Morning America by news anchor Josh Elliott was all there was: “In the wake of the IRS targeting scandal, the Obama administration wants to limit the political influence of tax-exempt groups. And thus, it is proposing new rules and donation standards to curb the explosive growth in political spending by nonprofits. The IRS has been accused of unfairly scrutinizing groups affiliated with the Tea Party."
Bozell went on to argue that when “President Obama says there are no scandals because he knows he's not going to be called out on this. It is why Harry Reid as you so correctly reported tonight was lying when he just dismissed every argument about ObamaCare. Every -- every story about ObamaCare is being a lie. Why do they do this? Because they feel they can. Because nobody but Fox is going to cover this and they turn around and attack Fox.”
Bozell concluded the segment: “People are scared to death that if they criticize this president, they will be targeted and they will be ruined by the IRS. Why are they scared to death? Because it is happening right before our very eyes and there are hundreds of examples of it."
