On Tuesday’s edition of The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg pressed former Republican strategist Mary Matalin for her early favorites for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination as she wondered who in the party would be able to separate themselves from “the kooky folks?”
For her part Matalin, who was invited on with husband James Carville to promote their new book Love & War, dodged Goldberg’s slam and proceeded to offer her pick for the GOP nod. (video after the jump)
The following exchange was aired on the January 7 edition of ABC’s The View:
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: I have a question for you Mary [Matalin]. Because I know you’re not of our persuasion. But who do you see?
MARY MATALIN: Which persuasion would that be?
GOLDBERG: You know which one. Who do you see in the GOP coming up in -- just even in the distance – that has a shot? Because some of you - you know separating your party from the kooky folks is gonna be very interesting. But who’s out there?
BARBARA WALTERS: We don’t have a lot of time. Throw out a name.
MATALIN: It will depend on 2014 and the dynamic. Everybody is looking at 2016. But what all of America wants of whatever persuasion is government that works.
WALTERS: Just throw out a name darling, we don't...
MATALIN: Scott Walker!
