Most people don’t know this, but beyond being a professional gasbag, MSNBC host Ed Schultz is also a prophet in direct communication with God. He let the world know this on his program last night when he pronounced that President Obama’s very unpopular health care law is something that all Christians should support because, in actual truth, God approves of Obamacare.
“I’ll tell you what I think God thinks of the Affordable Care Act: it’s a big amen,” Shultz pronounced before heading into a commercial break. Unfortunately for world peace and people of all faiths seeking answers, the left-wing host didn’t continue enlightening everyone about just what else was on God’s mind.
Shultz's impromptu sermon was inspired by one of his handful of viewers who sarcastically asked him via Twitter to interview Republican Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and ask her “what God says we should do about ACA.”
Right-leaning Christians often get attention from the self-described mainstream media for overconfident pronouncements that their political views are somehow divinely sanctioned but there is a very long line of left-leaning people doing just the same, even if they don’t get as much attention. In June, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) claimed that her pro-choice views on abortion were “sacred ground.” In May of 2012, Pelosi also said that her version of Catholicism “compels me” to support gay marriage even though the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, repeatedly denounces homosexual relationships.
Who knows whether President Obama would agree with that sentiment but based on remarks he made in 2007, he very clearly believes that the Christian tradition can quite readily support his Euro-left views on government. In a speech delivered to the left-leaning United Church of Christ, the then-Illinois senator denounced what he called “the Christian Right” for “highjacking” the teachings of Jesus and using them to support policies with which Obama disagreed:
“Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and faith started being used to drive us apart,” the Democratic presidential candidate said in a 30-minute speech before the national meeting of the United Church of Christ.
“Faith got hijacked, partly because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, all too eager to exploit what divides us,” the Illinois senator said.
“At every opportunity, they’ve told evangelical Christians that Democrats disrespect their values and dislike their church, while suggesting to the rest of the country that religious Americans care only about issues like abortion and gay marriage, school prayer and intelligent design,” he said, according to an advance copy of his speech.
“There was even a time when the Christian Coalition determined that its number one legislative priority was tax cuts for the rich,” Obama said. “I don’t know what Bible they’re reading, but it doesn’t jibe with my version.”
One wonders just what Bible verse Ed Schultz thinks supports Obamacare. Perhaps it’s in the book of 3 Thessalonians? Or might it be in 4 Peter? We’ll eagerly await to see what the world’s newest self-appointed seer has to say about that. Hat tip: Joe Newby. Video via Andrew Johnson.
