Dontcha love it when liberals accuse people they don't agree with of not loving their country?
It's especially delicious watching the perilously liberal Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC's Morning Joe Monday point her holier than thou finger at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx.), a man who just two weeks ago stood for 21 hours on the floor of the Senate demonstrating for the entire world how much he loves his country (video follows with transcript and commentary):
STEVE RATTNER: The Republicans are in the famous boxed canyon. There’s no question about that.
JOE SCARBOROUGH, CO-HOST: That the Wall Street Journal said they put themselves in.
RATTNER: They did.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI, CO-HOST: Then why did they double down on this?
RICHARD HAASS, COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS: With one exception: which is President Obama at the end of the day is responsible for the country and the economy. So he could quote unquote win, but it would be a Pyrrhic victory. So it’s a game of chicken that really neither side wants to go off the edge here.
BRZEZINSKI: That shows how much they hate him and don’t love the country, and that’s what’s scary about this.
SCARBOROUGH: No.
BRZEZINSKI: If they actually go through with this.
SCARBOROUGH: They love, are you saying they don’t love the country?
BRZEZINSKI: Uh, are you saying they do?
SCARBOROUGH: Yes, of course I’m saying they do.
BRZEZINSKI: Ted Cruz and his group loves the country?
SCARBOROUGH: Yes they love the country. I have never once suggested that even…
BRZEZINSKI: We disagree.
SCARBOROUGH: …the craziest left-wing lunatic didn’t love their country.
BRZEZINSKI: I think he loves his prospects to develop a database more than he loves the country.
SCARBOROUGH: I think Ted Cruz believes that ObamaCare is dangerous. I think he believes it’s devastating. I think he believes like I believe…
BRZEZINSKI: He’s allowed to believe that.
SCARBOROUGH: Right. And I think that he is willing to take extreme measures to stop it from happening.
BRZEZINSKI: But that’s bad for the country.
SCARBOROUGH: Hold on one second. But you suggested that some people might not love this country.
BRZEZINSKI: I am suggesting that.
SCARBOROUGH: People love this country, but they believe we get to the best outcome in completely different ways.
BRZEZINSKI: You know what? Nobody has ever done this before.
Actually Ms. Brzezinski, there have been 106 hikes in the debt ceiling since 1940, and on almost 30 occasions, Congress and the president battled over it.
No matter how much Brzezinski and her liberal colleagues want to hype what's currently happening as an historical precedent nothing can be further from the truth.
Beyond this, the current White House resident has shown that the only time he's willing to listen to Republicans is during so-called budget crises.
As such, what conservative Republicans are doing now is forcing Obama and the Democrats to address serious fiscal issues that the left side of the aisle caused from the moment it took over Congress in 2007.
And despite Brzezinski's absurd accusations, they're doing it precisely because they love their country and don't want to see it become Greece.
