Matt Damon had some harsh words for Barack Obama Thursday.
When asked by BET.com how he feels the President is doing in the second term, Damon said, “He broke up with me” (video follows with transcript and commentary):
MATT DAMON: He broke up with me. There are a lot of things that I really question, you know: the legality of the drone strikes, and these NSA revelations they’re, you know, it’s like, they’re, you know, Jimmy Carter came out and said we don’t live in a democracy. That’s, that’s a little, that’s a little intense when an ex-president says that. So, so, you know, he’s got some, some explaining to do, particularly for a constitutional law professor.
Awwww. Makes you want to cry, doesn’t it?
On the other hand, this wasn’t the first time Damon has criticized Obama.
He told Time magazine in 2011 that Obama wasn’t FDR.
Later that year Damon told Elle magazine “a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better.”
How can you argue with that?
But funnier still is what Damon told Britain’s Guardian last Friday:
Damon has been a passionate public supporter of Barack Obama and is confident that his healthcare reforms will rescue America from the iniquities Elysium dramatises. But Edward Snowden's surveillance revelations have just emerged when we meet and, Damon admits, "It just seems to have taken this weird, Orwellian turn. It's surreal. I don't know where we are now."
He does, however, have a theory about how these developments have happened under Obama's presidency. "I think it's tough for guys who weren't in the military," he says. "One, their manhood is kind of challenged on some level, I imagine, and they allow themselves to get bullied. And two, they're just politically afraid of either looking soft or looking incompetent, so they overcompensate."
Could disillusionment put him off campaigning for another presidential candidate? "No, I'm sure I will. As disturbed as I am by a lot of the things that Obama has done and is doing, I would not have preferred a Romney presidency, that's for sure. The alternative is even more frightening."
So Obama’s lack of military experience makes him a poor Commander-in-Chief.
How can you argue with that?
Of course, that’s what conservatives were saying about Obama regarding his lack of experience with anything necessary to be president.
Unfortunately, liberals such as Damon fell in love with Obama’s cult of personality and completely disregarded his background and his lack of qualifications.
Maybe if they did some critical thinking about their candidates rather than blindly falling in love with them they wouldn’t feel they got broken up with when said candidate performs at a level commensurate with his experience.
Just saying.
