Although CBS Late Show host David Letterman admitted that he had no idea what the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the Defense of Marriage Act meant, he still felt the need Wednesday to use the decision to bash conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.
“Earlier today, Rush Limbaugh's head exploded. It's crazy!” (video follows with transcript and commentary):
DAVID LETTERMAN: How about this - the Supreme Court has ruled the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional. [Cheers and applause] And once someone explains this to me I'm sure I'll be thrilled about it. [Laughter] Listen to what happened: earlier today, Rush Limbaugh's head exploded. It's crazy! [Cheers and applause] Think how bad we'll feel if we find out later his head actually did explode.
Actually, think how badly his audience would feel if Letterman actually tried to EXPLAIN what the ruling meant.
On the other hand, this demonstrated an Interesting tail of two audiences.
Letterman’s crowd goes nuts when he attacks conservatives while NBC Tonight Show host Jay Leno’s audience finds jokes about President Obama more to their liking.
To each his own I guess.
