This past week, while some Kossacks bade Margaret Thatcher a not-so-fond farewell, others argued that the Democratic party has moved so far to the right that it would suit, say, Ronald Reagan, and even Thatcher if she'd been an American.

...Although Democratic partisans love to blather about how much to the right the modern day Republican Party is from their professed conservative heroes of yore like Maggie and Ronnie, I'd much prefer to see a piece called "Why George McGovern Would be on the Left Fringe of Today's Neoliberal Democratic Party." If Ronnie and Maggie could find home in the modern Democratic Party, then it's the Democratic Party's lurch rightward that's most manifest and most troubling.

The great conservative Barry Goldwater once warned that when “preachers” take over the Republican party they will destroy it.” It turns out he was both right and prophetic. Preachers have taken over the Republican party, linked arms with global corporations and converted it from the party whose leaders ended slavery and established national parks to a force for a theocracy manipulated by corporations to enslave women and workers in general, bankrupt the middle class, steal from the taxpayers and rewrite the Constitution.
