As NewsBusters readers know, one of my favorite things to do on Saturday is expose the stunning ignorance of HBO's Bill Maher.
The Real Time host didn't let me down Friday actually saying during his prepared opening monologue that Indiana's Richard Mourdock lost his senate bid Tuesday to - wait for it! - "Elizabeth Warren up in Massachusetts" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
BILL MAHER: Oh, and speaking of legitimate rape, all the Republican men who talked about lady parts during the campaign, they all lost including two seats in the Senate. Todd Akin, remember Todd Akin? Right? And Richard Mourdock. They both lost. They lost to Claire McCaskill and Elizabeth Warren up in Massachusetts. And you know what? After all this stupid rape talk it is refreshing to see women forcing their way into men's seats.
No, actually, Mourdock lost to Joe Donnelly in Indiana. Warren defeated Scott Brown in Massachusetts.
But why should someone who has his own political talk show - or the writers that help him put together his opening monologue - know this?
Attaboy, Bill. You make us proud.
