We learned this past week on Daily Kos that the right is duty-bound to dehumanize the left, which would seem to explain, among other things, why conservatives dump their autumn leaves in the yards of their liberal neighbors.
As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.
KibbutzAmiad: Conservatives use Nazi tactics
...No one who disagrees with the right is a real American, and that has always reminded me of a line from Leon Uris' QBVII. A former concentration camp survivor was recounting a conversation he had with one of his torturers. He asked the Nazi, "How can you do this?" and received the reply, "Because to us, you are not quite human...." De-humanizing the "enemy" is and always has been a critical part of rightwing tactics...
taodog: Republicans are self-centered even in their yard care
...[W]hile venturing out to take care of the many leaves in my yard...I came across a pile of grass clippings and leaves that my [Republican] neighbor had purposefully dumped on my property from tending to his own yard.
And there it was for me in stark relief, Republican attitudes writ small into every act, even the yard work: I will do whatever I please that I think I can get away with...
Pericles: Media bias usually favors the right
...[I]n spite of Sarah Palin's fantasies of persecution by the "lamestream media", coverage often tilts in the opposite direction. When conservatives want something like ClimateGate or the ACORN pimp video to become a national story, it usually does, whether it deserves to or not. When public opinion differs radically from the facts...the error is usually in the direction pushed by conservatives...
...[B]latant absurdities are now "controversial" simply because the conservative power structure chooses to assert them: Tax cuts raise revenue. Budget cuts that lay off teachers and cancel public works projects create jobs. White Christian Americans are the real victims of discrimination. Poor people and government regulators created the economic collapse. The Founders intended the Bill of Rights to apply to corporations...
DowneastDem: The GOP is a global embarrassment
Did you ever have a crazy relative - an Aunt Mabel from Tupelo or an Uncle Archie from Queens - who made you cringe whenever he or she would open their mouth? When they came to visit you would live in fear that a friend or classmate would drop in and overhear some racist or inappropriate comment your relative would make, and then everyone would know the secret that your family is really crazy. That's how I feel about the Republican Party.
The GOP debates make me cringe...I just wish the rest of the world wasn't watching as well, for the GOP performance this election cycle diminishes our nation in the eyes of the world...
glendenb: Republicans are desperate and fearful
...The America that won the Presidential election in 2008 was pluralistic, multi-faith and no faith, multi-racial, and comfortable with itself; the America that won the House of Representatives in 2010 was white, Christian, and deeply anxious, clinging to its patriotism and American-ness as a precious totem of something about to be lost forever...
MinistryOfTruth: Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Occupy
...OccupyWallStreet is NOT liberal, it is American. It is moderate and independent and a little liberal and a little libertarian, but overall it is American.
American first.
But since the GOP and Fox News can not wholly own it, they must destroy it...
