MSNBC’s Ed Schultz on Tuesday badly mispronounced the last name of Constitutional lawyer and conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly.
Rather deliciously, this occurred in a segment wherein the pompous, know-it-all host was once again mocking the intellectual capacity of Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin (video follows with partial transcript and commentary):
The segment began with Schultz bashing Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s “conspiracy theory” that liberals are responsible for American students’ poor knowledge of U.S. history.
After playing a clip of Santorum on the stump, Schultz sarcastically asked, “Liberals are the ones distorting American history? Let me remind you, sir, it was conservatives down in Texas who voted to remove Thomas Jefferson from their curriculum and add Phyllis [Sha-fly].”
Ain’t it grand?
In a segment wherein Schultz was trying to debunk Santorum’s “conspiracy theory” that liberals are reducing students’ understanding of American history, he actually pronounced Phyllis’s last name without the “L” after the “Sch” and with a strong “I” as in “fly” at the end.
Adding fabulous insult to injury, Schultz then showed clips of Bachmann getting the locations of Lexington and Concorde wrong, and Palin’s now famous Paul Revere pronouncement.
At their conclusion, Schultz said, “For Santorum to say liberals are intentionally keeping students in the dark about U.S. history so they can impose their agenda is delusional Psycho Talk.”
Well, Ed, at least these ladies know how to properly pronounce Lexington, Concorde, and Paul Revere.
The way he said "Schlafly," it suggests he doesn't even know who she is.
With idiots like this responsible for disseminating information to the public, is it any wonder they're so ill-informed?
