Bozell Pre-Debunks Liberal Media Framing on Who Threatens Free Speech

On Monday evening during Free Speech Week, Media Research Center President David Bozell joined Bill O’Reilly on No Spin News to share the newest Free Speech award winner. While legacy news outlets churn out endless pieces claiming conservative voices pose a threat to democracy, Bozell pre-debunked the liberal media's favorite narrative by detailing the true culprit: a government-backed censorship-industrial complex under the Biden administration.

Bozell explained that the number one initiative was COVID-19 and how it was driven by HHS and its sub-agencies. Millions of dollars were funneled by HHS and the Biden administration to all different contractors and universities. Bozell specifically  made reference to Texas Tech and UT Health Houston receiving a sizable grant to study the origins of what federal officials labeled “COVID misinformation.”

He pointed to the second major initiative being what he calls the “industry working groups.” Essentially, representatives from Facebook, Google, and Twitter at the time (before its rebranding to X under new leadership) were summoned to Washington and ridiculed by the Biden administration for not doing enough to censor conservative values on issues such as COVID-19 and others.

Bozell clarified that whoever was in charge of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency was ultimately responsible for leading the charge to direct these social media operations. Later on, Zuckerberg testified before Congress and apologized for succumbing to the involvement of the Biden administration, telling his company and the public they had gone too far.

The third example highlighted at MRC involves taxpayer funds, specifically a $750,000 grant to NewsGuard, which was contracted alongside conservative news networks. The entities worked closely together with the federal government and the Biden administration to identify who the “egregious players” were on conservative-leaning networks spreading what was considered “misinformation.” MRC ended up on the “Toxic 10” list simply for questioning climate science on the issue.

Bozell went on to say that the digital space specifically was where conservative outlets were being targeted and misled, because independent platforms are heavily dependent on ad grants and similar funding streams.

Finally, Bozell responded briefly about Bobby Kennedy Jr. as one of the most controversial men in the country. During his presidential campaign, his campaign documentary disappeared from Facebook and Instagram for 12 hours. Bozell explained that the reason MRC is awarding Kennedy with the MRC Free Speech Award is his fight against the censorship-industrial complex involving HHS, specifically on the issue of COVID. Kennedy not only supported taking President Trump’s approach to defund the various grants coming from HHS that fund this censorship apparatus with Big Tech, but he also installed Free Speech proponents at the top of his sub-agencies to re-engineer these divisions and replace anyone who engaged in these COVID censorship practices, showing that his integrity mattered more to him than being a victim of the situation.
