In an unprecedented Friday afternoon news dump, President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he would be banning the liberal site Politico as well as liberal, elitist cable outlets CNN and MS NOW from the White House, citing their “constant ‘reporting’” of “FAKE NEWS” and the lack of accountability (aside from plummeting ratings and readership) for peddling “FICTION” and “LIES” about him.
It was unclear how this would be enforced, but it would almost certainly involve the Secret Service, which, of course, has extensive control over who enters the White House grounds.
Trump said in a post dated 3:04 p.m. Eastern that he was “proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!), and Politico[.]”
Citing the online and print outlet for past government subscriptions that tallied in the millions of dollars, he took particular aim at Politico as “[t]he recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them ‘alive.’ Seems like corruption to me!”
The President further said all three were banned “from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!”
“Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America. Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow,” he concluded.
As has become customary for big-name announcements and statements, Trump humorously added as a P.S.: “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Three of the leading purveyors of the Russia-gate collusion hoax and 2020 election interference, these three will certainly lean into the ban as harmless martyrs when, in reality, they all revel in the attention (despite claiming otherwise) and feed off of clicks and eyeballs from their fellow Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferers.
In Politico’s case, they notably helped quarterback the debunked letter from former intelligence officials – think the Deep State – asserting without evidence that Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation. The author of the original story? Natasha Bertrand, who is now with CNN.
This bombshell will almost certainly be challenged in court. In November 2018, Trump sought unsuccessfully to ban then-CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta by revoking his press pass.
Last year, the President sought to have the Associated Press banned from the White House press pool – a smaller group of reporters who travel with the President when outside the White House – because they refused to go along with changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. In April, a judge ruled against the President.
However, the White House largely won out as it held onto its newfound, self-appointed decision to control who makes up the daily pool, meaning the Associated Press would merely rotate with other print outlets. In the past, the precious liberal outlet was part of it every day.
