Media Research Center President David Bozell, Vice President of MRC Free Speech America Dan Schneider, and Executive Editor of MRC NewsBusters Tim Graham joined Newsmax in their recently released NewsFront Documentary. The film takes aim at NewsGuard for its overtly slanted “News Reliability Ratings,” biased against conservative media sites.
NewsGuard offers a downloadable web extension that rates news sites on a scale of zero to 100, declaring that any article they deem worthy of a score below 60 is not reliable. Various AI and big tech platforms, and even the American Federation of Teachers, use NewsGuard to filter through sources and promote those they consider more “reliable.”
Bozell recognized this type of preferential treatment as censorship, with a clear tilt towards one political party. In other words, at NewsGuard, “they tend to find all of the ‘reliable’ information on the left,” Graham stated.
As Schneider aptly put it, “If NewsGuard were to apply its own ratings system to itself, they would do very, very badly.” Schneider explained that this propaganda machine’s reliability “tests are not evenly applied” across news outlets regardless of their political leaning.
NewsGuard alleges itself a “nonpartisan” organization that asserts reliability. On the contrary, they are deliberately “trying to silence conservative media outlets”, as Schneider articulated. Bozell said,
“We don’t need NewsGuard and their so-called ‘expertise.’”
As for free speech, “it is the fight of our time,” Bozell noted.
