On Wednesday, CNN's Erin Burnett enthusiastically interviewed the brother of Natalie Harp, Preston Harp, who proceeded to slime both her and President Donald Trump. Of course, no pushback by Burnett as to what motivated him to attack his sister and Trump. Could it be because she and the CNN producers knew very well something quite toxic about him that would tend to cause much of their audience to dismiss his criticisms?

The Washington Post on Saturday revealed the important background of Preston Harp that CNN oh so very conveniently declined to reveal to their audience in a story by Terrence McCoy, "She’s a Trump acolyte. He’s a ‘gringo Sandinista.’ Meet the Harps."

Natalie Harp’s brother had a busy morning Friday on Facebook.

In post after post, Preston Harp made clear the profound political differences that separate him from his estranged sister, one of President Donald Trump’s closest personal aides and the subject of intense scrutiny this week in Washington.

Photos Harp posted that he said depicted his home in Masaya, a city in western Nicaragua, also appeared to identify him as an ardent supporter of the Sandinistas, a Marxist-influenced revolutionary movement that has dominated Nicaraguan politics for decades under President Daniel Ortega.

What appeared to be a Sandinista military hat lay beside a suitcase. A flag of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) — which led an armed guerrilla resistance that overthrew the dictatorship of U.S.-backed Anastasio Somoza in 1979 — hung from his wall. Displayed on a shelf were several books by and about the Argentine-born revolutionary leader Ernesto “Che” Guevara, as well as a certificate issued by a Sandinista-affiliated group.

The Spanish newspaper El Pais dug into even more detail on Preston Harp's Marxist background on Friday in a story by Wilfredo Miranda Aburto, "The ‘revolutionary’ life in Nicaragua of devoted Trump aide Natalie Harp’s brother."

In Masatepe, a municipality on the shores of Nicaragua’s Pacific coast, 38-year-old Preston Harp enjoys himself in bars, declares himself a Sandinista, is photographed at regime events co-presided by Rosario Murillo, and uses artificial intelligence to pose in a National Police uniform — the main repressive arm of the Ortega-Murillo government, an institution the United States has accused of being behind the brutal repression of the 2018 protests that demanded the end of the regime. The massacre left more than 360 people dead, according to human rights organizations. Harp displays his “revolutionary” life without reservations on social media.

Preston Harp embodies, almost to the letter, the cliché of the anti-imperialist American expatriate: long, hippie-style hair and open sympathy for governments that claim to be revolutionary.

...In his social media posts, Preston Harp is an ardent defender of the co-presidential regime. For example, in one of his most recent Facebook posts, he said the Sandinista Front governs because it was “elected by the people.” He denied Nicaragua is a dictatorship and presented government rallies featuring public employees as an expression of gratitude toward the Sandinista Revolution. “Who has control? The people,” he wrote, before closing with the slogans “¡Viva el Frente Sandinista!” and “¡Patria libre o morir!” His defense came just a month after Ortega, at the official July 19 ceremony, announced the end of the electoral route in Nicaragua: “There will be no more elections here,” he declared.

One wonders if Preston Harp was among those warning of Trump being a threat to "our Democracy" while fully embracing a Marxist Sandinista dictator who openly canceled future elections in Nicaragua. Also one might wonder if Erin Burnett was aware of the background of Preston Harp as a Sandinista fanatic at the time she interviewed him on CNN. She doesn't look good either way.
