Over the weekend on a nationally televised women's basketball game, Indiana Fever basketball player Sophie Cunningham was brutally whacked in the face going up for a layup after she became controversial for wanting to keep women's basketball limited to women. Chicago Sky played DiJonai Carrington was ejected from the game. She then rushed into the locker room and blamed "white privilege" for the ejection.
Sports Illustrated posted this outrageous headline online: “Sophie Cunningham got a bitter taste of karma after drawing flagrant foul in Fever-Sky.” It was revised: Sophie Cunningham's Enforcer Role Gets Reversed Onto Her With Hard Foul in Fever-Sky." Clay Travis said "Sports media is broken. It’s way more left wing than political media."
MRC Video content creators Brittany Hughes and Nick Kangadis joined the show for some cultural analysis. The WNBA can't seem to define what a woman is, just like Ketanji Brown Jackson struggled with it. Fever Coach Stephanie White went Full Ketanji in not being a scientist when it came to men in women’s sports.”
In June, we had this issue with Alyssa Thomas of the Phoenix Mercury looking like she was punching Indiana fever star Caitlin Clark in the throat. Clark has tried incredibly hard to stay out of every political fight and ignore every slight and flagrant foul.
Either, she's just trying to stick to playing basketball -- or she's failing to make a statement about the makeup of her league. Fox’s Dana Perino said Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark are like, look, we're just trying to play basketball here. We're not trying to get involved in politics. They're not saying trans kids don't belong....What they're saying here is that girls sports should be protected for girls who can then hopefully grow up and be like us.”
There's a lot of wokeness in the WNBA. Seattle Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton allegedly left two teens in tears after crossing the court to curse out the 16-year-olds calling them 'F***ing insane,' and telling them to stop pulling this (S***). Minnesota Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve wore a "Trans Kids Belong" shirt, and Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams said she "would welcome" biological men on the WNBA courts.
The leftists have decried recent "stunts" about the WNBA's makeup. Enes Kanter and Royce White made noises about making themselves available for the WNBA Draft.
Clay Travis pledged $10 million August 3 for the WNBA to put their defending champion Las Vegas Aces up against a boys’ high school basketball team of his choosing, with the apparent intent of showcasing the imbalance of biological males competing in women’s sports. Jana Shortal, an anchor of Twin Cities NBC affiliate KARE 11, sneered that Travis “thinks it is so impossible for any group of women — let alone the best in the game — that they could ever beat younger and more inexperienced boys.”
Then there was wokeness about immigration. CNN correspondent Clarissa Ward made a video titled “How the ‘identifiable victim effect’ plays into politics” Video of mobs entering a country made the viewers feel "less capacity for guilt, tenderness, compassion to the people in the frame. In other words, fewer of the emotions that we associate with being fully human. Not because the viewers are cruel, but because the image itself, at scale, triggers something closer to a threat response than a human one."
