The View Whine ‘Cannibal’ Trump Attending WHCD, Now They're Not Going

April 24th, 2026 2:32 PM

President Trump’s planned attendance at the White House Correspondents Dinner had really caused the liberal media snowflakes to meltdown. During Friday’s The View the ABC News co-host whined that Trump was going to be attending their elitist event and how they now had to skip it. Of course, they also had to humble brag about how they’re “always” invited and have had a great time when they were attacking Trump at the dinners.

“So, the White House Correspondents Dinner is tomorrow night. And for the first time as president, Trump will be in attendance as president,” Behar announced, before really getting into the bellyaching. “So here's the situation, a guy that hates the press is at a dinner that honors the press. You can't even make this up anymore!”

She touted how, “Over 200 journalists signed a letter demanding that Trump gets called out during the dinner, they decided.”

Co-host Ana Navarro was particularly bitter, she decried the report that Trump might not attend the entire night; rather, he would just give his comments and leave. She wanted the White House Correspondent Association to make him stay:

FARAH GRIFFIN: He's apparently, it's reported the president is going to go, give his remarks and then leave. So, they can all celebrate once he leaves if they want to.

ANA NAVARRO: White House Correspondents Association should not accept that. If he is going to show up, he should sit there while Kaitlan Collins gets her award. I think it's disrespectful to come in, confront the press, say his remarks and then leave. If he's going to sit there then I think -- if he's go going to attend the White House Correspondents Dinner should demand he sit through the entire event.

Good luck trying to keep him against his will with Secret Service.

Navarro then went on a rant about how the White House Correspondents Association shouldn’t “normalize” Trump’s attendance - after years of whining that he never went. She also insulted the dinner by explaining how it wasn’t worth the time to get ready (Click “expand”):

I can tell you, you know, we get invited every year, and I am glad there's people going because as Alyssa said, this raises money for worthwhile causes. For me, there is no way in hell I would normalize Donald Trump's presence by showing up. For me, as a Latina immigrant, I mean, no community has been as maligned, humiliated, prosecuted, and tortured as much as the immigrant community and the Latino community.

And there’s just no way I'm going to go put on spanx and high heels, drink cheap wine, eat a bad chicken dinner, and smile at the stupid things I know he's going to say.

Pretend independent co-host Sara Haines lament how she used to enjoy the elitist night out but now not any more. “And it's just not a funny or enjoyable anymore,” she huffed. “Like right now it's -- because the press and the media have been under attack for almost going on ten years now, and kind of slandered for everything they cover, it's not a time where you can kind of just shoot one back and feel laid back. It feels too serious.”

The angriest of the lot was chronically aggrieved Sunny Hostin. She bragged about how they “always get invited” to the dinner, but this time “I will not go this year …  because I won't grace him with my presence because I think he's been attacking the press.”

Of course, she made it about race:

And, you know, he qualifies as the most anti-press president in the dinner's 105-year history. Retaliatory access bans and physical restrictions on journalists, frivolous lawsuits against the press, defunding of public broadcasting, dismantling of international broadcasting, personal verbal tacks on reporters, especially black women, black female reporters, assaults on the media and official releases and social posts, and the arrest of my friend, Don Lemon!

She too didn’t want Trump “normalized.” “I don't care about this president's attendance at that but I do care about journalists making him appear to be normal. He is the most abnormal president that we've ever had in the history of this country,” she decried.

Navarro got in the last swipe at Trump, by equating him to a cannibal. “Having Donald Trump speak at the White House Correspondents Dinner where the free press is honored is like having a cannibal host a vegan event,” she sneered.

In previous years, The View has pitched dinner jokes targeting Republicans to President Biden (which all flopped, even with their audience). They also defended their attendance at the event when the COVID lockdowns were in full swing.

JOY BEHAR: So, the White House Correspondents Dinner is tomorrow night. And for the first time as president, Trump will be in attendance as president. He was there one time when I was there. The time that Obama humiliated him and he went bananas. I was there.

So here's the situation, a guy that hates the press is at a dinner that honors the press.

SUNNY HOSTIN: Right.

BEHAR: You can't even make this up anymore!

Over 200 journalists signed a letter demanding that Trump gets called out during the dinner, they decided.

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: He's apparently, it's reported the president is going to go, give his remarks and then leave. So, they can all celebrate once he leaves if they want to.

SARA HAINES: I echo what Ana and Alyssa said about the importance of it, but the dinner for me was always to sit side by side with your colleagues and kind of have this moment where you're appreciating the journalism, and the role it plays in how we hold politicians accountable. And it's just not a funny or enjoyable anymore.

Like right now it's -- because the press and the media have been under attack for almost going on ten years now, and kind of slandered for everything they cover, it's not a time where you can kind of just shoot one back and feel laid back. It feels too serious.

BEHAR: They're not having a comedian this year because he has very thin skin.

HOSTIN: He’s too thin skinned.

Let me say this. You know. We always get invited. We've all gone together. I will not go this year. I am not going to go this year because I won't grace him with my presence because I think he's been attacking the press.

And, you know, he qualifies as the most anti-press president in the dinner's 105-year history.
