'Shut Up JD!' Whoopi RAGES at Vance Over Taylor Swift Criticism

September 12th, 2024 5:00 PM

ABC moderator Whoopi Goldberg had an absolute meltdown on Thursday’s edition of The View, when she flipped out on Ohio Senator and GOP vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance. His crime? He dared to state the fact the billionaires like singer Taylor Swift were not noticeably harmed by the current poor economic conditions and high inflation because they can still easily afford necessities and more.

Without any actual evidence, Goldberg proclaimed that Swift endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris had “upset snowflakes” on the right. What she claimed was evidence, was just a clip of Vance explaining that billionaires don’t feel economic hardship like average Americans do.

Of course, Goldberg’s approach to addressing the light criticism had all the maturity of an elementary school child:

GOLDBERG: The Republicans are not happy that Taylor Swift is endorsing Harris, like vice presidential candidate [makes fart sound with her mouth] J.D. Vance. Watch.

SEN. JD VANCE (R-OH): We admire Taylor Swift's music but I don't think most Americans, whether they like her music or are fans of hers or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity, who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans. Look, when grocery prices go up by 20 percent, it hurts most Americans. It doesn't hurt Taylor Swift. When housing prices become unaffordable, it doesn't affect Taylor Swift or any other billionaire. It does affect middle-class Americans all over our country.

“You don't know what affects her! You don't know about her money! Who asked - How you talking about it! Shut up JD!” she shouted at the camera with her face contorting into all matter of horrific sneers.

Immediately going into a commercial break, Goldberg tried to inch it back. “When we come back we're going to talk more about this. I'm sorry, that was very rude. Stop talking, J.D.,” she said. In coming back, she had more apologies, but still wanted Vance to shut his mouth: “You know, the reason I apologized is because I hate when people tell me – pundits tell me to shut up. So, it's not a nice thing to say. So, I do take it back. But the implication is, hush.”

But that was not the only hard words she had for critics of liberals. She teamed up with Chelsea Clinton (who was filling in for Sunny Hostin) to lash out at Fox News hosts and any women who dared to speak negatively about Harris:

GOLDBERG: But I have to tell you, knowing all this stuff that apparently was being said about her on Fox, all the disparaging things, all of the, like, really nastiness.

CLINTON: I mean, Whoopi, the racist misogynist crap.

GOLDBERG: The racist misogynist. But it was also coming from other women, other women. So, for all of those folks, I hope you recognize that she's actually going to be your president too.

And for your moment of Zen from Thursday’s show, co-host Joy Behar demanded that everyone needed to remember January 6, but she couldn’t remember the date herself:

BEHAR: This is from George Orwell’s book 1984 regarding Trump denying. “The party told people to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears, it was their final most essential command.” That is what they're trying to do now. They're trying to tell you, June – what is it? 9th, 6th, whatever it is.

MULTIPLE CAST MEMBERS IN UNISON: January 6.

BEHAR: January 6, didn’t happen. I can't remember these dates. I don't remember my birthday… That people should remember that. That this is a manipulation!

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: You know what, I – I want her to continue to do what she's doing the way she's doing it because she also – She’s not – You know, we still have a president. She still has another job that she still is doing.

JOY BEHAR: Yeah. For a little while.

GOLDBERG: But, yeah, she has to – She can't just stop doing that. She has to continue do it. So, I think that's why she's not out there the way that you would love to see her.

But I have to tell you, knowing all this stuff that apparently was being said about her on Fox, all the disparaging things, all of the, like, really nastiness.

CHELSEA CLINTON: I mean, Whoopi, the racist misogynist crap.

GOLDBERG: The racist misogynist. But it was also coming from other women, other women. So, for all of those folks, I hope you recognize that she's actually going to be your president too.

[Applause]

BEHAR: Can I just read one thing? One small thing. Can I?

GOLDBERG: Go, go, go.

BEHAR: Okay. This is from George Orwell’s book 1984 regarding Trump denying. “The party told people to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears, it was their final most essential command.” That is what they're trying to do now. They're trying to tell you, June – what is it? 9th, 6th, whatever it is.

BEHAR: January 6, didn’t happen. I can't remember these dates. I don't remember my birthday.

GOLDBERG: You know, I got to go. So, is that all you wanted to say?

BEHAR: That people should remember that. That this is a manipulation!

CLINTON: They know what they saw.

BEHAR: You know what the truth is.

SARA HAINES: Which is why Fox is saying Kamala Harris won.

GOLDBERG: Yeah, but they should be saying it because they were really crappy to her about her. We'll be right back.
