Vice President Kamala Harris committed a terrifying gaffe while talking about climate change on July 14, and NBC's, CBS's and ABC's evening news shows failed to cover her colossal mistake.
In her July 14 speech at Coppin State University, Harris stated that “[w]hen we invest in clean energy and electric vehicles and reduce population, more of our children can breathe clean air and drink clean water.” What made the gaffe even more ridiculous was a later transcript released from the White House that comically tried to run cover for Harris. The transcript crossed out the word “population” and replaced it with “pollution.” However, the initial, insane statement by the vice president produced no coverage from the weekday propagandists at NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News and ABC’s World News Tonight during the July 14 and July 17 editions of their shows.
NBC Nightly News not only ignored Harris’ wild comments, but the show also covered a story about Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ), who used the term “colored people,” supposedly by mistake. How is this mistake worth covering for the hacks at NBC, but not a Malthusian gaffe (or Freudian slip) by the vice president calling to “reduce population” so that “more of our children can breathe clean air?" Talk about a double standard.
Meanwhile, CBS Evening News reported on people who decided to travel instead of retire, and ABC’s World News Tonight chose to cover the lottery.
Prominent personalities on Twitter blasted Harris’ gaffe, including commentators Blaze Media host Glenn Beck and comedian Terrence Williams. Beck noted that even though it was a mistake on Harris’ part, he still left the possibility of a Freudian slip open to debate: “it’s evident that reducing population ultimately IS part of the agenda.” Williams criticized Harris’ comment as “insane” and said that “[e]very American should see this clip.”
